Real Food, My Way

Real Food, My Way. Sunday, March 25, 2012. It's been so long since I posted on this blog that the babies I made soup for last spring just had their first birthday and took their first steps. Oops. Sorry. I know that many people still come to this blog and read the archived posts. Google says 2,500 of you came last month! I could go on and on with the list of reasons why I haven't posted in the last year, but suffice to say my energies have moved on to other projects. See, I do eat! Links to this post.

Real Food, My Way: Coconut Oil Killed my Stink!

http://realfoodmyway.blogspot.com/2009/03/coconut-oil-killed-my-stink.html

Real Food, My Way. Tuesday, March 17, 2009. Coconut Oil Killed my Stink! This week's Real Food Wednesday is on natural body care products. This is a topic that I've learned a lot about recently, and feel pretty strongly about. This may be the first in a series of posts, we'll just see how things shake out :). I have lots of reasons for rejecting commercial. Body care products. I don't like the chemicals. I don't like the marketing. I use only simple soap like Dr. Bronner's. Or patchouli stank. That d...

Real Food, My Way. Thursday, February 11, 2010. I Love Oregon. and Cheese. February 14 is not only that hallmark holiday all decked out in pink and red, it is also the anniversary of Oregon becoming a state. Since I love Oregon much more than I love pink hearts I am very happy that a friend of mine has a tradition of a "Oregon, Be My Valentine" cheese and wine party each year. We play. Cheddar Cheese Log for the 21st Century. 8 oz cream cheese or homemade yogurt cheese (see below). 1/2 tsp ground mustard.

Real Food, My Way. Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Taken in South Korea show just some of the diversity of Korean pickled vegetables. This batch I made included the exotic addition of arame, a type of seaweed. Seaweed is a great thing to add to anyone's diet for the trace minerals and rare proteins and sugars. Arame, the common name for the kelp Eisenia bicyclis, is a rich source of calcium, zinc and iodine. It is also a good source of lignans which help fight cancer according to some studies. And my pickle FAQ.

Real Food, My Way: Kraut 101

http://realfoodmyway.blogspot.com/2009/01/kraut-101.html

Real Food, My Way. Wednesday, February 4, 2009. I've become known in some circles as a bit of a fermentation guru. I'm no Sandor Katz. At it's most basic sauerkraut is cabbage and salt, left to ferment into a tangy condiment. The fermentation is completed by a wide variety of bacteria that turn the sugar in the cabbage into acid that in turn preserves the cabbage from spoilage. The live bacteria in unheated sauerkraut. Here are my instructions for making one quart of jar fermented sauerkraut. This is...

124; Comments RSS. Traditional Foods can be both Yummy and Fun. Let me show you how. Here’s why we live the TF lifestyle. Traditional Food #2: Kefir. Posted on 05.11.2009. So where can you get kefir? Some grocery stores carry it; Lifeway and Helios are two brands I can find locally. You can also make your own kefir; it’s very simple. Kefir is made when kefir grains, placed into milk, are left to culture (ferment) for usually 24 hours. So what is a kefir grain? Sounds weird, right? So why do I drink kefir?

this little pint of mine: Mommy and Me Art

http://thislittlepintofmine.blogspot.com/2017/01/mommy-and-me-art.html

Thursday, January 5, 2017. Mommy and Me Art. After the holidays I found myself swimming in tissue and wrapping paper. Instead of tossing it out we decided to paint on it. Annabel, like most kids her age, loves free painting. The tissue paper gives interesting texture and the colors blend together easily. Small canvas or thick paper. Step 1: Paint your tissue paper. Cool colors for the ocean? Warm colors for the sun? Maybe some greens and yellows for a forest? Step 2: Shred it up! View my complete profile.

this little pint of mine: June 2013

Sunday, June 30, 2013. A Zigging and A Zagging Baby Blanket. This was the first blanket I had ever knitted and let's just say.blankets take patience. I spent a long time searching for the perfect pattern. Something light-weight, cause Southern Cali is pretty warm most of the year, and something "current". I decided to go with this pattern. I used Caron Simply Soft because it is washable and nice and scrunchy! If you are looking for a good yarn for baby clothes, I recommend this one. Putting Up with Erin.

this little pint of mine: Easy Masking Tape Art with my 2 year old!

http://thislittlepintofmine.blogspot.com/2015/04/easy-masking-tape-art-with-my-2-year-old.html

Saturday, April 25, 2015. Easy Masking Tape Art with my 2 year old! I have been really wanting to do an abstract art piece with my 2 year old and I have found the perfect way to achieve a clean unmuddy look; MASKING TAPE! It is so simple and the sky is the limit with the designs you choose to mask out. I choose a simple herringbone design and set to work placing the masking tape down. This part took about 20 minutes and was kind of tedious. Then you remove the masking tape and Ta-Da, "Toddler-Made Art"!

this little pint of mine: Knitting

http://thislittlepintofmine.blogspot.com/p/knitting.html

I took up knitting a few years ago and dabbled in scarves but within the past year I really got into it. I mean kind of obsessed with knitting. I learned how to knit with circular needles this past winter and I haven't looked back. It gives you so much freedom with what you want to knit. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Is running a 7 day challenge to get you creating with your kids, or just yourself! This is the 2nd time that we have done the Art Start Challenge. And this time I bought the PDF. I highly recommend checking out the website and signing up for emails. Today we used marbles and a spinning top to paint! I really like this activity because it works so well with all ages. You can get complicated with colors or just let them mix freely. The most popular play-based learning activity!
