My Favorite Recipes: February 2012

http://recipesbyamberly.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 13, 2012. One of Beau's Bulgarian colleagues at U of R shared his mother's Mousaka recipe with us. It was a tricky translation as she doesn't speak much English, but I'll be experimenting with it to get it right! 1 kilo kaima (ground pork and beef). 2 tablespoons tomato sauce. 1 tablespoon red pepper. 1 tablespoon cumin seeds. Pinch of black pepper. Put into baking dish and bake at 350F. Check periodically to see if it is done. When it is done, prepare the topping.

My Favorite Recipes: December 2011

http://recipesbyamberly.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 31, 2011. I went plunging the depths of my sister-in-law Tamara's blog today to find this recipe. I just liked it that. Much the first time I made it, I guess, so I'll just poach it and put it here where I can quickly find it next time! 2 lb beef top sirloin, thinly sliced. 4 cloves garlic, minced. 189; Asian pear or ¼ kiwi—peeled, cored and minced (not optional. This acts as a meat tenderizer.). 4 green onions, thinly sliced. 189; cup soy sauce. 2 Tbsp sesame oil. 1 Tbsp sesame seeds.

Friday, December 7, 2012. I'm a little spotty with the blogging lately. Qualifications for being "blogworthy" are just steeper lately I guess. Tonight, however, we went a little wild and hosted a babysitting night for three other families. Meaning, we had 13 children in our house all at once! Beau insisted that he'd seen her go back up the stairs, but we could NOT find her! The photo is totally priceless. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). El Rancho de Rigby. A Daily Dose of Happiness. Tuesday, January 22, 2013. I have not bragged about my children nearly enough over the last few months. They are pretty awesome, so they deserve it. I'm in a tricky place right now. I haven't figured out how to balance everything in my life. Some areas of my life feel like a total mess, but I'm pretty confident that for every step I'm taking backwards, I'm taking a slightly bigger one forwards. Optimism! I'm just glad that I have such a supportive husband and friends to fall back on now and then. And how...

Wednesday, September 26, 2012. Bath Tub and Red Cup. We have a modesty policy on this blog. Kind of. Okay, just barely. Babies are cutest when they're naked. For those of you wondering, Josh is disco dancing in those last photos. He's very proud of that "talent.". Monday, September 24, 2012. Aaron is four years old now! He is the most awesome four-year-old I know, too. He loves to play! My photos went up backwards, so first you get to see Aaron opening his presents at home on his actual birthday. We ...

Friday, December 13, 2013. Caleb is saying his own prayers now! I've been coaching him for the last few weeks and he usually just repeats the last word of whatever I tell him to say. But he took off on his own when I sat him down for lunch today. I started him off with "Dear Heavenly Father," and he took it from there:. Raising this one right, huh? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Monday, July 23, 2012. More Photos of Cute Boys. I'm busy busy busy. I'm very tired of packing stuff! I cooked my last meal tonight though. That means I get to finish packing up my kitchen! Cold cereal and sandwiches from here on out. Although we're going to Aladdin's tomorrow to celebrate Beau passing his dissertation (which he defends tomorrow afternoon- don't worry, he'll pass) and on Wednesday we have a dinner with Beau's adviser. So we'll be well fed. It was a good evening. He said it didn't hurt.

Wednesday, August 29, 2012. No, we haven't been camping. With Beau's attitude on "roughing it," that's extremely unlikely. :). But I still feel like we're camping in our own house! I've fully moved into my kitchen. There's storage for everything! The fridge and pantry are moderately stocked and I can really cook here! I can't complain too much. We did go deeper in debt enough to get a washer and dryer set! Thursday, August 23, 2012. Impromptu Stop in Arkansas. Kirtland and the Great Wolf Lodge. All I had...

Saturday, May 11, 2013. When it rains, it pours! I transferred all of the photos from my phone onto the computer today, so instead of dropping them into separate posts by topic (like a sane person would do), I'm letting them all flow into one! With minimal explanation too because, let's face it, I'm pretty minimalist with this blog lately! The following photos are from Josh's school program, a Seussical Musical! Singing with actions is not his favorite thing, but he pulled it out for this. Utah Valley Cr...

Saturday, August 9, 2014. This guy doesn't mind getting a new track to play with every day. I think this was right around the last day of school. He still looks like this. One of those adult teeth is just starting to show, but he's had this nice tooth gap all Summer! Josh got great marks at Piano Guild and totally rocked his piano recital. His teacher takes Summers off, so all I've been able to get him to practice since then are Super Mario Bro.'s theme songs. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). What Speaks to Me.

Monday, October 22, 2012. This totally justifies the four oatmeal cookies I'm about to eat, right? Thursday, October 18, 2012. We are making lots of friends in Texas! Really, we have some wonderful neighbors, the kids have lots of friends (and best friends) at school, and I am quickly getting to "friend" status with so many amazing women in our ward! Aaron decided he much prefers eating smores to making smores. Zombie face. "Brains! The stomp rocket stole the show. We need to get one of those! We went to...

If it's not good for you, it should at least taste good. Blue Cheese Salad Dressing. June 4, 2012. Like my buttermilk salad dressing this is based on the recipe from the original. I like the freshness of the green onions in it, though it does spoil a bit more quickly than it would with the dried onions Katzen calls for. This dressing is lovely on a green salad with steak and baked potatoes. 2 tbsp sour cream. 1 tbsp lemon juice. 4-6 oz blue cheese, crumbled. 2 green onions, chopped. Salt, if necessary.
