About Red Earth Designs. Karen and Claire graduated from the University of Ulster. At Belfast in 1996, each with a BA. Honours Degree and then in 1998 with a Masters in Fine and Applied Art, ready to take on the world, but first, a bit of retail experience was necessary. Red Earth Designs produce a range of affordable and functional ceramics, predominantly in porcelain. The influences behind these pieces are; Land and Seascapes with the integration of man made materials and architecture, and an interest in states of decay such as urban decay and fragmentation in the natural environment. The Wall Pieces are a collection of works created from clay, with frames made in-house, and using reclaimed slate and red brick roof tiles. Porcelain flax clay slip is brushed onto hand building clay and impressed with various textures to create designs. These range from abstract designs to representations of buildings and street scenes or urban landscapes. Commissions undertaken to represent specific landmarks or buildings. Malagasian people have traditionally associated these primates with spirits because they are active at night, and perhaps because of their eerie, large-eyed stare. There are eight species of mouse lemurs, and several have been identified only in the past few years. This is a rarity in primate research, and illustrates just how much remains to be known about these fascinating animals. Also known as Peters' Mouse Lemur.

We don't really celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK - but then I'll celebrate anything given an excuse (see - the opening of a mailbox, the day that ends in 'y' etc) - so I decided to cook something festive last night in recognition as it were, of what's going on across the pond. Ive had a pumpkin in my kitchen since before Halloween, and I've been putting off eating it because ITS SO BIG - and this was a really small pumpkin! Some of that's my lunch and there's more in the fridge!

I can't wait to see the finished article and have a go at sewing it myself - statistically there are only so many things that can go wrong with my sewing machine. perhaps this time. I also finished the napkins that I was working on for a friends wedding gift - the finished napkins were embroidered with a compass rose and the map coordinates for her. Lovely links : ).

Saturday, 23 April 2011. It was touch and go there for a while but we're moved and settled in. Its amazing how much rubbish you gather up. actually. i think its pretty clear that i've got a problem about hording stuff - im starting to resemble one of the tip women from labyrinth. But (following the intervention) i havent bought anything appart from food - until today. I got some fabric! I plan to make a little pirate purse and a table runner with my gorgeous dino fabric : ). We went to the Zoo!

Monday, 24 October 2011. All the small things. Several hilarious things have happened this week, also things which are NOT funny. My personal favourite so far has been getting the shopping from asda on Saturday. It was raining (more on that later) so we were rushing back to the car, me hunting for the keys and him pushing the trolly. So what happened? The dinner slid out of the bag and Al ran over it with the trolly! One piece of chicken was a bit squashed but otherwise ok- but the sauce? Lovely links : ).
