Shankill Sure Start Mural. Red Earth is available to work with Community groups, schools, and Disabled groups, to facilitate Ceramic Projects which culminate in large-scale Ceramic Pieces. These projects range from 4-6 weeks, up to 20 weeks, depending on the scale and budget. Red Earth transports the clay and tools to the groups, and brings the work produced back to the studio for firings and mounting etc. Murals can be designed to suit your budget or age group.

About Red Earth Designs. Karen and Claire graduated from the University of Ulster. At Belfast in 1996, each with a BA. Honours Degree and then in 1998 with a Masters in Fine and Applied Art, ready to take on the world, but first, a bit of retail experience was necessary. The search for premises took them to Townsend Enterprise Park, an ideal location close to the city centre, from where they still work today, with a fully equipped Pottery studio and a fully equipped Framing studio. The Gallery Pieces are unique Sculptures, each one a progression from the last, with an emphasis on aesthetic vision, simplicity of form, line and decoration. They are coil built using flattened coils with slabs incorporated to create the carved/inverted shadow forming sections. The Wall Pieces are a collection of works created from clay, with frames made in-house, and using reclaimed slate and red brick roof tiles. Porcelain flax clay slip is brushed onto hand building clay and impressed with various textures to create designs. These range from abstract designs to representations of buildings and street scenes or urban landscapes. Commissions undertaken to represent specific landmarks or buildings. Red Earth Designs produce a range of affordable and functional ceramics, predominantly in porcelain. The influences behind these pieces are; Land and Seascapes with the integration of man made materials and architecture, and an interest in states of decay such as urban decay and fragmentation in the natural environment.
