A Finer Thing: My Idea of Fast Food #4
http://afinerthing.blogspot.com/2013/02/my-idea-of-fast-food-4.html
Thursday, February 21, 2013. My Idea of Fast Food #4. Today was one harried day, booked solid and punctuated by a sputtering car that couldn't be driven home and gifted wagyu ground beef that I had foolishly allowed to become of questionable safety. My precious dinner, that restorative of my soul planned with loving care, was threatened. Then I remembered a good trick for times like these: the Italian egg sandwich. Adapted from Giada De Laurentiis. 2 teaspoons olive oil. 1 garlic clove, cut. Heat the oil...

A Finer Thing: August 2012
http://afinerthing.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 31, 2012. It's time to have that talk now. No, not THAT talk! The one about chipotle-lime marinated chicken, a little something that I said we should discuss sometime. One leftovers-driven day, I went looking for something to do with excess chipotles in adobo. I like them, but I don't have the heat tolerance to load too many into a dish, and even if I did, there would still. Some half-decent grill marks don't hurt either. Maybe someday I'll have a real grill, and we'll see what smoke a...

A Finer Thing: October 2012
http://afinerthing.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 12, 2012. Good food isn't the only kind of thing shared by Heidi Swanson of 101 Cookbooks. Fame She also regularly posts favorites lists that contain varied offerings. One link on her last list was to a video of a lovely and admirable 95-year-old with the face of a wise old woman and the agility of someone much younger. You can find it here. For now, I'm blessed with a son who thinks I look too young to be gray-haired. I'll honor his wish for a while and play along with the cultural f...

becoming claudine: it's all good
http://becomingclaudine.blogspot.com/2014/08/its-all-good.html
Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Something has been afoot here. Some shifts, some stresses, some changes, some serious. Changes, some summer weeks flying by as if they are rushing towards something unseen. A friend of mine e-mailed yesterday and described this summer as a doozy. Yes, oh yes, a doozy indeed. But then I remember a moment, or a day, or a special little trip and I realize that added together they have made our summer good. Not perfect, but good. In a doozyish kind of way. Labels: life as it is.

solstice letters
https://solsticeletters.wordpress.com/the-story
In nature, solstice occurs twice each year, heralding the longest and shortest of days. The first lures us outside to fireflies and cricket serenades. The second chases us back in, to fireside fairy tales and mugs of warmth. These letters are not sermons or sentiments. While there are vast numbers who doubt the existence of God, I believe there are countless more who simply doubt His goodness. Many days. 1 John 1:5,. Letters to Malcom, Chiefly on Prayer. New York: Harcourt, Brace, and World, 1964). This ...

her words | solstice letters
https://solsticeletters.wordpress.com/2010/03/14/her-words
In the early morning light, I sit. Her words. Tapped out across miles and space, hours before, stare at me framed in pitch. Bit by bit, I take them in. Savouring. Lingering. Once through, and then again. I swallow hard. Blink back salt. Whisper thanks. On this day, in these tasks, I will worship. From → gina: bright and blithe. Larr; let everything happen. Another voice →. Leave one →. I savour her words, too. And yours. Her words are so incredible, as are yours. I have run out of words.
