Newer posts →. October 13, 2011 · 11:19 pm. I’ve added a dinner menu with recipes on my Projects page. The dinner is the Danelaw inspired night for the Baronial food fund at Rowany Festival: boiled beef with bacon, side dishes of onion and cabbage, boiled barley, endive salad, turnips. Cherries on sweet griddle cakes. Enjoy. October 11, 2011 · 11:43 pm. Questions I’m asking myself. Some questions I have. Is Ragnhildr actually Norse or Danish – if Norse, did she come via Ireland/Dublin? What sort of boat?

Food | Researching Ragnhildr

https://researchingragnhildr.wordpress.com/food

Disclaimer – this dish is actually an old family favourite, but I do think it is a feasible dark age dish. Finely slice 1/8 cabbage and 1/2 onion per person. Coarsely chop a rasher of bacon (short cut if watching animal fats intake) per person. Heat griddle with some butter (or olive oil if watching dairy/fat intake). Fry up onion till caramalised/brown with bacon till it’s crispy. Scatter on the cabbage and ‘stir fry’ until it’s as cooked as you want it. Why do I think this dish is feasible? Slice leeks...

50 items | Researching Ragnhildr

https://researchingragnhildr.wordpress.com/50-items

Fru Ragnhildr would need many things in her daily life. My list so far – photos to come. The plan is to learn a Carolingian miniscule script to write up the inventory, as if she was providing the goods to a monastery when being sent there in it’s role as a retirement village. I’m not looking to make all the items – being a discerning shopper is a skill too. Nostepinne (not sure on the history of this tool to make a centre pull ball- it’s a challenge). Linen smoothing glass and board. Food, glorious food.

Trying a stew | Researching Ragnhildr

Another project or two. More food – Ham and barley stew, oatcakes with dulse →. September 10, 2012 · 7:30 pm. I don’t often make stews. It’s the sloppy texture and risk of having it catch on the bottom that bugs me. But….then….my local grocery had a new line of dried European mushrooms (even the brand Viking forest caught me). Tonight’s dinner is therefore mushroom stew. Another project or two. More food – Ham and barley stew, oatcakes with dulse →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Projects | Researching Ragnhildr

Where I show my craft projects as I make Fru Ragnhildr’s items. Spinning – currently on the drop spindle (a top whorl) I have preprepared 20 micron merino roving. It’s not a Viking age fibre, I know, I am learning to spin with a spindle. Recipes – my work on this has grown so I”ve made a page on food. Calligraphy – Ragnhildr wouldn’t be literate, so I’m learning a monkish script – Carolingian miniscule. Leatherwork – a quiver. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
