Restoring Ferris: One down, five to go

http://www.restoringferris.blogspot.com/2014/12/one-down-five-to-go.html

One down, five to go. Scored one of the six pieces of fender beading that I'll need to put Ferris back together. Now the challenge is to find the other five pieces. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The long slow road. 311 711 327, Handle for hand brake lever-grey black. 311 711 461, Rubber boot for hand brake lever, grey. 311 857 561, Clip sun visor. 361 885 753, Rubber lining for rear panel. N 20 091 1, Grommet. But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads?

Restoring Ferris: California Trip 2014

http://www.restoringferris.blogspot.com/2014/06/california-trip-2014.html

The 'missing' box arrived while I was in California. 3 large bellows clamps, an early fuel pump rebuild kit, 4 clamps for the heat elbows, tail light housing seals and steering box bolts. NOS rear ashtrays. Can't say I've seen too many of these. They're as close to perfect as I've seen and I'm glad to have them for the 64 S. I also had the chance to run into a few people who've told me that they have quite a few of the parts that I'm still looking for.so that was excellent news! The long slow road.

Restoring Ferris: Ignition switch arrives

http://www.restoringferris.blogspot.com/2014/05/ignition-switch-arrives.html

The ignition, the keys and the box. The ignition is made by DOM-an Italian company that made parts for VW. I have an early Type 3 fuel pump made by the same company. The construction of the box is different from the typical ignition boxes-there's a flap on the end that opens. The other boxes I have are two separate pieces that fit together. Front bezel is slightly different from the Kolb ignition switches. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The long slow road. 311 857 561, Clip sun visor.

Restoring Ferris: One box closer...

http://www.restoringferris.blogspot.com/2014/05/one-box-closer.html

Received one of the two wayward boxes today. It contains a few pieces purchased for a friend and a few pieces for my two cars. NOS 6v generator seals. Chrome plate for pushbutton assembly. Rear axle bump stops. Lens seals for the N model. Housing seals for the N model. Upper and lower dash screws. Sunroof guides (2 sets). Clutch pedal shaft and bushing. Rear heat tube for the 64S. Rear trans cradle and bushings. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The long slow road. 311 857 561, Clip sun visor.

Restoring Ferris: Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hand of time.

http://www.restoringferris.blogspot.com/2015/05/perfection-is-attained-by-slow-degrees.html

Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hand of time. I wish completing a car was as simple as a Voltaire quote implies. The pan is going to need some attention before I start bolting things to it and the front beam I planned to use isn't going to work out. I've got plenty to do while I wait for the body work.I just need to find the time to make it happen. I feel like the Henry Bemis. Not simply an amount of time, and there's no telling when that will be right now. The long slow road.

Raising the Nautilus - Tales of a VW Type 3 Karmann Ghia Restoration: 22 September 2013

https://the-nautilus.blogspot.com/2013_09_22_archive.html

Saturday, September 28, 2013. I mentioned previously that I received the Nautilus as not much more than a body shell. That's really only true if one were to discount all the 'treasures' that were stuffed into the body shell's nooks and crannies. Nearly none. Of these ancillary parts will be used during the craft's restoration due to their decrepit condition, however I remember the seller being bound and determined to use their presence to leverage the sale. Being a realist.ok. a pessimist. The eternal op...

Raising the Nautilus - Tales of a VW Type 3 Karmann Ghia Restoration: 14 April 2013

https://the-nautilus.blogspot.com/2013_04_14_archive.html

Friday, April 19, 2013. Quality time with Winston, Part 1. The flywheel on the bottom, in the picture above, was the one I pulled from the engine. Just look at the hub on that unit. What a piece of garbage that thing is! Once I got the original flywheel back from the machinist I discovered the flywheel shims for the 40HP engine are different from those more commonly found in the '66 and later VW air cooled engines. How different? What else could be wrong within this engine? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Raising the Nautilus - Tales of a VW Type 3 Karmann Ghia Restoration: 11 November 2012

https://the-nautilus.blogspot.com/2012_11_11_archive.html

Sunday, November 11, 2012. Meanwhile, back at the ranch." Part 2. It took a bit of effort to reach the body man out at the ranch. Being truly used in the loosest of senses. I was also suddenly slammed back to the reality that my car was indeed located on a working cattle ranch. In context, I'm bound and determined to not become a 'cash cow' for this outfit. Some of the bondo! Hard to see, but the cost savings are real. At this point, I'll take it! Meanwhile, back at the ranch." Part 1. What I started with.

Raising the Nautilus - Tales of a VW Type 3 Karmann Ghia Restoration: 01 January 2012

Sunday, January 1, 2012. Instrumentation for the Nautilus, Part 2 - a reproduction Type 34 tachometer. I'm finally working on the engine for the Nautilus in earnest and I like the idea I'll have a tach to monitor the RPMs during break-in. I finally sent the other gauges out to North Hollywood Speedometer for rebuild. Since they had something to do with the production of the tachometer pictured here, there should be consistency across the dash once the instrumentation is installed. View my complete profile.

Raising the Nautilus - Tales of a VW Type 3 Karmann Ghia Restoration: 30 November 2014

https://the-nautilus.blogspot.com/2014_11_30_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2014. It's Halftime on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe some of these were lost over time by careless owners, a situation precipitated by the fact that Type 34 restorations tend to span a greater period of time. These cars are often handed off one or more times before they become abandoned projects, are sold for parts, or finally become completed projects by a motivated new owner. Still wondering which category I fall into. This was literally a halftime activity, start to finish. The final ...

Raising the Nautilus - Tales of a VW Type 3 Karmann Ghia Restoration: 19 February 2012

https://the-nautilus.blogspot.com/2012_02_19_archive.html

Sunday, February 19, 2012. A reproduction Type 3 fuel pump. A question arose on der Samba. BCD is still in the fuel pump business. I undressed the fuel pump by removing its 'protective cover'.you know, at the risk of dangerously digressing, here, what the hell. Is it with that cover, anyway? Is it to provide some super-protective powers to prevent damage to the pump, or to my sensitive knuckles? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. What I started with. Raising the Nautilus - Tales of a VW Type 3 Karmann Ghia Restoration: The Nautilus gets some new wheels

https://the-nautilus.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-nautilus-gets-some-new-wheels.html

Sunday, July 20, 2014. The Nautilus gets some new wheels. With a little human assistance the Nautilus can easily pirouette within the confines of our garage. The wheel dollies also offer a bit of height to the craft, so it's easier for me to slide under and work on inside. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. What I started with. Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Instrumentation for the Nautilus, Part 3. Dissatisfaction has set in while inspecting the restored gauges themselves. Yes, indeed, all the gauges are beautiful in comparison to the parts sent in for restoration. So, what's wrong? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. What I started with. Reality is better than fiction. Are we under parasite control? Deep sea fish go hunting land-beetles! In January 2004, Mathew Jones was processing the bycatch from New Zealand lobster stock assessment. Six fish including a silverside, Bollons. Rattail, jock stewart, dark ghost shark, javelin fish, and a oliver’s rattail yielded a shocking surprise. The finding was all the more fascinating given that these fish were all taken from deep sea at near 400 meters ( 1300 feet). 8220;It belongs in a museum!
