Wednesday, June 24, 2009. There can be more to creating an image than pulling out paper and paint. My food blog has presented new challenges in illustration. When cows unexpectedly visited my garden, I wrote a post and need an illustration. I had a painting of a jersey cow. And I had a painting of the garden gate. Could I put the cow in the garden using the magic of Photoshop? To read the post on my food blog *click here*. Thursday, June 11, 2009. 12 x 12 Show - Studio Place Arts. Rather than simply join...

http://riverroadstudio.blogspot.com/2009/05/musing-on-color-blue.html

Thursday, May 14, 2009. Painting refines my eye and makes more visually aware. A word like 'blue' opens the door to infinite possibilities. On sunny, cloudless days, at the horizon the sky . Is cerulean blue and directly overhead it is cobalt blue. Prussian blue is important when painting blueberries and blackberries. Chicory flowers range from cobalt, to periwinkle, to baby blue. Blue eyes have flecks of silver or green. Dark veins on leaves have touches of ultramarine. 160;close at hand. . Http:/ www&#...

river road studio blog: Painting in Progress

http://riverroadstudio.blogspot.com/2009/05/painting-in-progress.html

Thursday, May 7, 2009. I've been working on this painting for the last couple of days. I wanted to work with whites, yellow whites, pink whites and blue whites. This painting is in a state of  'middleness' - a time of judging and editing.  Should the flower that is falling off the left side of the canvas go away? 160;how much darker can I make the background? Should I use a cloudy white glaze on the table? Which white will be the best for the bright white highlight needed on the vase? I am a writer and a...

Art-Wise Women: A Rainy Day

http://artwisewomen.blogspot.com/2013/06/a-rainy-day.html

An intimate group of Central Vermont women artists. Wednesday, June 26, 2013. This morning plans were all set to paint plein aire but lo and behold it was raining. Again. So, Sandy and I set up in the Summer Studio and worked there listening to Ottmar Liebert's flamenco guitar and the falling raindrops. We both worked on finishing paintings we had begun earlier and decided that the rain was a really blessing in disguise. Here's the acrylic which I started way back in March, finished at last!

Vermont food from a country kitchen – Carol Egbert - Category: garden

PIN – Print it Now. Soup in Ten Steps. September 25th, 2010 / comments 4. In April every radish is a treasure, in May the appearance of spinach seedlings brings joy, in June it is delightful to create a salad of tender greens, in July the garden and the kitchen are in harmony, in August tomatoes and squash are overflowing, in September, apples, pears and plums appear along with school buses, and the CSA share that seemed modest in the spring is overwhelming. I have a ten-step game plan that I follow when...

An intimate group of Central Vermont women artists. Sunday, May 12, 2013. So, back to Vermont and settling into the studio again. Hundreds of ladybugs were hanging out there, ready to welcome me home. It's so good to be back to this beautiful part of the world! I need to decide how the two separate pieces will attach to one another.for now I have used large paper clips to hold them together. I also may want to us...Ps and di...

An intimate group of Central Vermont women artists. Monday, April 1, 2013. Sap Buckets on Calendar Hill. I just completed a painting which you can see below in an early stage. Here, the landscape has been brushed in quickly. Sap Buckets on Calendar Hill". Acrylic on canvas - 14" x 18". There is a great advantage to working from photos- when it is too cold to paint outdoors, I can work in the studio. As always, the landscape is open to interpretation. Art-Wise Women: August 2013

http://artwisewomen.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

An intimate group of Central Vermont women artists. Saturday, August 17, 2013. This is a real departure for me. I'm in the process of practicing painting roses and today I decided to loosen up and speed- paint in acrylics. This is a 16x20 inch acrylic on canvas. As you see, I am still obsessed with flowers. I would love to see if I can create some of this texture in water-mixable oils. Thursday, August 15, 2013. This piece, titled Fields of Gold. Is part of the Pompanoosuc Mills. An intimate group of Central Vermont women artists. Sunday, December 2, 2012. Once again, it seems a long time since I've written. dad stories

Thursday, April 14, 2011. It undoes me so I come here to piece myself back together. Tuesday, February 1, 2011. I loved growing up on a dairy farm. The smell never bothered me. When friends came to visit and were overcome by the potent stink of manure, I would just shrug and say, "after a while you can't really smell it anymore.". I write this story not so much to convey something deeply moving about my father's character, but to remember a sweet time of life, when we were young, and Dad was proud of his...
