Rock Paper Lizard: Waikiki Tree Penguin. More.

http://rockpaperlizard.blogspot.com/2015/04/waikiki-tree-penguin-more.html

Lizard sits on rock, rock rolls onto lizard. Paper blows around in the background. Thursday, April 2, 2015. Waikiki Tree Penguin. More. A little more than a year ago I introduced the blogosphere to the Waikiki Tree Penguin. This bird is feared. Of course no one else saw it. That's how it goes. This is a bustling, urban site. Here is the view approaching the banyan tree (Google Streetview image), not where you'd expect to see a WATP, but there it was. Being surveilled by a drone. Search Rock Paper Lizard.

Yet you'll sell your piano to go back. Hard to tell from that last photo whether it is a starfish or the first ever selfie making an appearance on this site. Even the cart species is smart enough to seek out shade in the hot sun. Impressive evolutionary coping strategies. April 17, 2015 at 2:31 AM. How I almost beca...

Lizard sits on rock, rock rolls onto lizard. Paper blows around in the background. Friday, March 26, 2010. Scene of the crime. Pseudo-skink, attacked by night-heron. Were intentionally introduced to Bermuda in the 1970s. They were meant to be an ecological replacement for a closely-related specie. Uh-oh Nonsuch Island is one of the last strongholds of the highly endangered Bermuda Rock Lizard. A skink, genus Plestiodon. But there was suspicion that the herons might also have been preying on skinks. In th...

Lizard sits on rock, rock rolls onto lizard. Paper blows around in the background. Sunday, April 27, 2008. Death from above, 5% alc/vol. The Bermuda Rock Lizard or skink, Plestiodon. Has a remarkable sense of smell, and is critically endangered. Many factors contribute to the latter fact, one being the former. It is Bermuda’s only native lizard, and evolved on a landmass that at one time bore thousands of nesting seabirds, including Bermuda Petrels, known as Cahows. I don’t know other lizards that ...

http://urbanwildhome.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Finding Nature Close to Home. Thursday, June 6, 2013. NEW YEAR'S DAY HIKE - PLACERITA CANYON. I started out on the Manzanita Peak Trail, thinking I'd do a little summit. It starts out pretty easy, but then got really steep, with some pretty tall steps to surmount. When I got back down, I decided to warm up with some coffee and a snack at the day use picnic tables. It was quite chilly and very windy, so a brew sounded good. I MISS MY BLOG! After Blogger changed the way we can load up photos, forcing us to...

Urban Wild: A VERY SAD DAY FOR AMERICA - NATIONAL PARKS CLOSED

http://urbanwildhome.blogspot.com/2013/10/a-very-sad-day-for-america-national.html

Finding Nature Close to Home. Tuesday, October 1, 2013. A VERY SAD DAY FOR AMERICA - NATIONAL PARKS CLOSED. Government Closes Yosemite as Google Celebrates the Park. I have lost any faith or hope in our government. Every branch of it is occupied by self-serving and selfish politicians who do a great injustice to the constituents they serve. I like to keep the tone of my blog positive, but this event is one that is not easy to ignore. This is a sad day indeed. Although not without precedence (they've ...

Finding Nature Close to Home. Sunday, September 22, 2013. AUTUMN EQUINOX - CELEBRATING THE NATURAL WORLD. 8220;The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”. In the play of sunlight on leaves;. In the pungent-sweet scent. Of sun-warmed pine needles;. In the music of water. Gurgling over smooth stones;. In the flutter of bird wings. Just out of sight;. In the mysterious cobalt blue. That enfolds the word at dusk;. In the bright mantel of stars. Poem by Linda Navroth).

Dave's a place, not a person, for what it's worth. Friday, May 8, 2015. Shagbark hickory buds are not for the faint of heart. IPhone photos – not ideal, but not half bad, by some of my criteria (subject, composition, and what not). Sucky by others (crispness, clarity). It is what it is – I was doing a quick after-dinner walk down to the end of the road and back and I just couldn’t resist.I even deliberately left the. Finding Nature Close to Home. Monday, August 13, 2012. RETURN TO MT. PINOS. There's something magical about this area; Mt. Pinos itself is sacred to the Chumash Tribe and considered the center of their universe. I believe all forests are sacred, and as such, are imbued with special meaning and beauty that begs our worship. The forest is mixed conifer of huge, ancient Jeffrey Pine, Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir. The meadow margins were filled with tall lupine in bloom. The odd buckling and undulations of...

Finding Nature Close to Home. Sunday, November 25, 2012. HIKE THROUGH A STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL PLACE. I'd done the Mishe Mokwa Trail in the Santa Monica Mountains close to 20 years ago. It was so long ago I don't remember much about it or whether or not I did the whole 6 mile loop. But I decided on a repeat trip and I did plan on doing the 6 miles. A sample of what lay ahead. The trail starts along Carlisle Canyon, with views towards the ocean on one side, and towards Thousand Oaks on the other side.

November 12, 2013. Composer is a dependency manager like: Maven, Gradles and CocoaPods. It lets me declare what libraries I want to use and it will download and install it for me. Composer is also well integrated in PHPStorm, though I will use the CLI(Command Line Interface) version of it. In this project I will use composer to generate my php directory as well as installing and integrating all the frameworks I need in my project. Most of this was generated when I generated the directory because Symfony ...

Daily Heron | Herons here, herons there.

Herons here, herons there. April 12, 2010. This is the one hundredth. Post I’m taking off for a while, because the herons have too. They’re spending much of their time tending to their nests, and soon will be busy with their young. This makes them harder to find away from the heronries. Anything of heronal significance over the summer I’ll post at Rock Paper Lizard. Thank you for reading this blog. I’ll let you know at RPL when it starts up again. Welcome to Daily Heron.
