Rogue Eggplant

Sunday, June 14, 2015. The many colors of June. The June landscape is less riotous than that of April and May, but I've still got a near-rainbow of flowers to report for Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. I don't see any red out there, but there's orange:. And also the orange ditch lilies peeking out behind the blueberries:. Speaking of which, let's jump ahead to blue, and away from flowers for the moment:. Mm, blueberry season. Other daylilies besides Hemerocallis fulva. More yellow in St. John's Wort:. The la...

Rogue Eggplant: March 2015

http://www.rogue-eggplant.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 15, 2015. The end of winter? I haven't posted here since winter began, and it has been a long one! We got only a couple of feet of snow total, but the cold was intermittently severe (for Maryland) and the biggest snowfall was the latest. After a week of above-freezing temperatures and some rain, it's finally melted, aside from plow piles and shady spots. I'd hoped to have more flowers to report for GBBD. But no such luck. I do have lots of snowdrops:. Will Garden For Food. The end of winter?

Rogue Eggplant: September 2014

http://www.rogue-eggplant.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Travel post: Monticello, Hershey, Coastal Maine, Tower Hill. I've just returned from a trip up and down the Eastern U.S., Virginia to Maine and back, and of course I saw some gardens! But I did take photos of the other gardens, so before I start, here is the inadvertent collection of Large Red Grass shots:. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Tower Hill Botanic Garden. Perhaps these are photos representative of each garden's style. Or else it's just me liking red. There was a ...

Rogue Eggplant: April 2015

http://www.rogue-eggplant.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Showing off the pepper seedlings. The Grow It Eat It blog really doesn't need me spamming about my seed-starting operations any more this year, so I thought I'd just post a photo of my huge and lovely peppers here instead. They really want to go outside, but even hardening off is not going to start for another week or so. But aren't they pretty? Will Garden For Food. Saturday, April 25, 2015. My favorite daffodil, Yellow Cheerfulness. A little epimedium hiding away in a corner.

Rogue Eggplant: Trees: unsatisfactory, unproven, and coming into their element

http://www.rogue-eggplant.blogspot.com/2015/05/trees-unsatisfactory-unproven-and.html

Sunday, May 10, 2015. Trees: unsatisfactory, unproven, and coming into their element. Trees are a long-term commitment and a promise to the next generation - except when you mess up and plant the wrong one. Many years ago now (around 1997, I think), we fell in love with Sophora japonica. Blooms at a season when they're lacking elsewhere! Except when the sticky mess of spent petals and nectar falls on the cars. Here's the tree itself:. Since we lost the cryptomeria and holly planted a couple of years ago ...

Build-a-Bowl | runandyum

3 is for Wednesday. Camera Shy →. January 17, 2012 · 3:04 pm. Over the summer I learned to pop amaranth. From Ashley at the edible perspective. This morning I built myself a bowl of cereal. I started with about a cup of my puffies, a teaspoon of unsweetened coconut, grated nutmeg and some raisins. Then I added blobs of sunflower seed butter and that honey pretzel peanut butter…. And finally a few cinnamon Puffins, some granola, and milk. My next goal in the cereal realm is homemade bran flakes. I remembe...

Sharing the thrill of the dig, the joy of the harvest, decadent eats, and profoundish musings along the way. Saturday, November 13, 2010. GTTC - blue potatoes and introducing.new challenge! This week I made 2 versions of potatoes, tapas style. I worked on these one at a time, and after devouring the second version, the family asked what the third version would be. Well the potatoes don't just come out of the magic oven in different variations all day long! Below, you see the beautiful (right? Collect the...

Time for Tea: Chapter One | Erica H. Smith

Erica H. Smith. Author of the Waters of Time series. Time for Tea: Chapter One. His feet, running, crunched and squealed on the gravel road. No Not gravel. Reflexive curiosity bent his neck and jarred his viewpoint lower. Shells: the sea’s leavings. They must have shoveled them up and dumped them in barrowfuls. Resourceful colonists; local materials. A hard white road: the moonlight shadowed curves and hollows and sharp broken edges. At least he still had boots to run on them in. Why are we still running?

Erica H. Smith. Author of the Waters of Time series. May 10, 2015. Of mothers and airplanes. It’s Mother’s Day, so I want to blog about the end of World War II in Europe…. No, it’s just that we did observe the 70th anniversary of V-E Day, by going into DC to have planes fly over us, an exciting aerial display for which I will borrow CNN’s photo:.
