Notes about life, people, places, politics, writing . Thursday, May 29, 2014. An affair of some gravity. The weather has been dull, uninviting and soggy for the past few days. On Wednesday we decided to branch out and tempt fate with a walk near Belvoir Castle. But the cloud refused to lift, and views were limited. Belvoir Castle looking gothic. Photo by HH. Manor House and outbuildings. The apple tree - regenerated from the original fallen trunk. No photos allowed inside the house - it has been refurnis...

Notes about life, people, places, politics, writing . Sunday, October 26, 2014. Corby Glen and Bourne Woods. Trimmed trees follow the curve. Sandwiches, salad and coffee. By the sunny window. A curly pot sheep. Criss-cross paths through autumn trees. Lead to fenland views. Piled clouds slashed with blue. From dark to sunbright. A lovely, illustrated ginko which highlights a beautiful autumn day. Love the curly sheep! Thanks, Ida - i was quite taken by the sheep - matches my hair too! Rosie round the World.

alithoughts: Nottingham (4) Castle and Rock
http://auntiekath.blogspot.com/2014/10/nottingham-4-castle-and-rock.html
Notes about life, people, places, politics, writing . Saturday, October 18, 2014. Nottingham (4) Castle and Rock. Nottingham Castle was built in William the Conqueror’s time, high on Castle Rock. The Norman castle is no longer there, but there is a 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original castle. It is now the city's main museum and art gallery. We didn't visit, so on the list it goes! This is part of a restored Victorian fern garden. The tour includes 300 steps. Boxing Match at Headi...

Notes about life, people, places, politics, writing . Thursday, October 16, 2014. 1 Above eye level. In Victoria Street. The clock was made by the firm of G and F Cope and Co, for the ironmongers who owned the shop in about 1950. It was later restored, and according to an article in the Lenton Times. Was in full working order in 1982. Alas it seems to have been stopped now - one face read 4 o'clock and the other face 2.25. At one time the two blacksmiths would strike the anvil every quarter hour. Films I...

Notes about life, people, places, politics, writing . Saturday, November 01, 2014. My contributions to a collaborative poem just about hold together . . . The ancient feast of Samhain. Is now approaching fast. That time when we remember. The spirits of the past. Do you dare to read the tombstones. Do you dare to walk the lanes. Or wander past the churchyard. Blood curdling in your veins? The veil between our world and theirs. Grows thin as night proceeds. Beware, oh mortals, of the mist. Rosie round the ...

Notes about life, people, places, politics, writing . Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Anyone who reads my blogs will know that one of my major obsessions is walking, usually along the UK's fantastic network of footpaths. This is an experience difficult, if not impossible, to replicate in other countries. Our Ordnance Survey maps are pretty darned good too! Maybe this man had the attitude I've seen expressed on occasions - that public footpaths are an outdated survival from the times when agricultural workers h...

http://auntiekath.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Notes about life, people, places, politics, writing . Tuesday, September 16, 2014. A visit by car to Mount Diablo, 3,849 feet high, and standing high above the surrounding low hills and flat valleys. The view is fantastic on all sides, though it is said to be at its best in winter and early spring after a storm has cleared the air. The view towards the north. The summit beacon used to be used for navigation, but is now lit only to commemorate Pearl Harbor Day in December. Looking back to the summit.
