Welcome to the blog for our round the world trip. Khorog - Pamir Highway. We have been staying overnight with incredibly generous locals - we ask politely if we can park on their land to sleep and end up being invited in for dinner, music, local dancing etc. We have already been adopted by at least 3 Tajik families. Welcome to the blog for our round the world trip. Vyborg Cathedral, Russia. Originally uploaded by rtw2007. The Finnish Lake District could be more accurately titled the Finnish Forest District. Welcome to the blog for our round the world trip. Hair-raising hairpins in the van of dreams. Hijab mural, Skardu. Originally uploaded by rtw2007. Currently, our life is pretty simple: wake up amid beautiful mountain scenery; drive along the river through more mountain scenery; stop for a dirt cheap and very tasty lunch; drive a bit further; then stop to go for a walk / chat to the locals / eat a delicious dinner. Really, it’s tough. Can’t imagine why we ever gave up work. Khunjerab Pass and the KKH.

We are writing this from the Grand Café in Volgograd. After a couple of days of turmoil; several sessions of stabbing voodoo dolls of the traffic police; and wondering whether or not this whole mad-cap trip is worth it or whether we wouldn’t be better turning round and going to Spain for six months, things are finally starting to look up. We we...

Welcome to the blog for our round the world trip. Wawel Castle, Poland. Originally uploaded by rtw2007. The weather had taken a real turn and most of the week we have been sweltering in 32 degree heat. It was strange too be able to sit around the campsite with Barbara in the sunshine on the camping chairs that we nearly didn’t bring, contemplating being back in Estonia only a short while ago when even to open the van door was a punishable offence due to the cold.
