Tales from the harvest. Newer posts →. November 21, 2010. 100% solar power. Ironic - in the pouring rain Saturday. Some of you may remember my blog about the neighboring wineries. I decided to walk the quarter mile or so south to visit Nickel and Nickel. A sister winery to Far Niente. Not my best idea – the walk home was in a hard rain that was coming down sideways! The enology lab is in a barn. Actually, two antique barns that were brought here from New Hampshire and stitched together. November 20, 2010.

Tales from the harvest. The Pride of two counties. Palmaz…innovation and heart →. Not quite there…Palmaz. November 22, 2010. Looks like we've finished pressing here at Palmaz. I'll just go ahead and move the basket press out of the way now. That's what we interns do. I drove down to Southern Napa Valley, just East of the Napa Country Club into a quiet little neighborhood in the town of Napa. I thought I was in front of Palmaz Winery. Hand-crafted tales from a micro winery. It was sunny and 27C (81F) on Super Bowl weekend! Just beautiful in the Dry Creek Valley. Notice how “cleaned up” the vineyards look. If you click on the pictures, you can see the fresh pruning cuts. You want to prune when you can reasonably expect to avoid rain for a few days before and after pruning. Fresh pruning wounds are susceptible to fungal infections like the spores of Eutypa lata. 8211; think “Dead arm.”. Dry Creek Valley mustard looking West. Notify me o...

Hand-crafted tales from a micro winery. Flowering: Bloom to Fruit Set. Down 15 in the 4th quarter, The Dallas Mavericks rally to win Game 2 of the NBA Finals! Ah, but I digress. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are usually some of the 1st varietals to bloom so they were affected by the late May/early June rains that interrupted this stage. Also, the warmer Alexander Valley fruit set was affected somewhat as well – The always uneven clusters of Zinfandel especially. Nalle Winery vines two weeks apart. I moved ov...

Running Towards Change
Sunday, March 24, 2013. A few months ago I won two free race entries through a facebook promotion! Not only did we get free entries, we even got free race shirts, metals, and potatoes from the potato bar after the race. The best part? It was an evening race! While I really do love races, getting up before a 8:00am (let's be honest.getting up before 10:00) and driving for an hour to RUN is not high on my list of ways to spend a Saturday. Soaked immediately after the race. It was a cold, windy, wet, but al...

Running Towards God | Musings of a Catholic chick who's running to win the imperishable crown.
Musings of a Catholic chick who's running to win the imperishable crown. March 25, 2016. The Cross: An Epic Failure. By all worldly standards, Jesus was a failure. Because, by all worldly standards, to fail is to suffer. To fail is to be powerless. To fail is to be weak. To fail is to be victimized, misunderstood, persecuted– to be deprived of pleasure, glory, advantage, status. I would submit that the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ, true God and true man, is the most scandalous event in human history.
