Day 28 – only 2 days to go Whooppee! Today takes us into our last state – Georgia. From here it is just a case of crossing the state until we hit the Atlantic. Alabama State line - leaving! Georgia State line (across the road from the Alabama line! Puncture No.4 - my last of the trip. A real live armadilo!

Our second to last day takes us from Perry to Metter, a distance of 117 miles. We rolled out at 7am and scenery-wise picked up where we left off yesterday with yet more forests. Day 29 - Dry for now! Our 24th day takes us further across Mississippi to the town of Kosciusko, a distance of approx 144 miles – another long day. Unfortunately however the previous evening it had clouded over and the heavens opened quite spectacularly. By morning we awoke to a wet day with heavy rain. A very wet start to day 24. I've always thought about going to Hawaii, and when my friend Tammy invited us to her wedding, we initially said no. But then Jim said he has enough airline miles and hotel points to get us flights and hotel rooms, so why not? Thurs/Fri. was spent traveling for 31(! We arrived Friday at 9:30m. Damn. Found out that the Sheraton upgraded our room to Ocean Front. Nice! Went to have cocktails with Randy (the husband to be) around 5pm on Friday over at the Grand Hyatt. What a nice resort! Hugh entryway, plush.

Bike Tour Day 14 Clayton. Today we rode the road the went on and on and on. We rolled out of Walsenburg extra early, at 6:00 am and the first 55 miles passed in a blink. It seems to do this every morning these days, we get 50 miles in and sort of ask ourselves, what just happened? Then the fun stopped. We got on the final road into Clayton, the John L. I decided to drive over to Craig's house and ride from there in hope of getting the 20 extra miles in that will allow me accumulate exactly 5000 for the year. I recently went down to Lake Tahoe for The Death Ride. This is a crazy endurance event covering 129 miles and 15000' of climbing. We stayed at a condo at the base of one of the Heavenly resort ski lifts. There were 5 of us there, 4 of us doing the ride. There was lots of “what are YOU bringing with you” and “I can’t believe how old your bike is! I’m not sure I agree since I saw 3 women coming down the 5. And would probably never get worn. : ). Race for the Cure. Sunday morning. Race for the Cure 5K. Another downtown race that starts at an ungodly hour. But it's for a great cause! I was at the start line by 7:25 to race at 7:30. Along with 3,000 other people. And that was just in the first event. Last Sunday, on a whim, I signed up for the Run Like Hell 1/2 Marathon. Good lord, what was I thinking? Bike Tour Day 15 Amarillo. I rode hard for a bit trying to get past the tradgedy I just witnessed but the crosswinds and headwinds were picking up. Will they never end? Bike Tour Day 12 Buena Vista. The descent off the summit was awesome. We had a tailwind the entire way to Buena Vista which made the last 40 miles seem like a recovery ride. We rode past Twin Lakes and Mt. Elbert which I hiked up a few years ago as well, and I remembered seeing the Twin Lakes from the top and wondering what lay in that direction.
