Four Figs & a Duck: December 2011
http://fourfigsandaduck.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Four Figs and a Duck. Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Okay, I admit it. I love prawn cocktails. That's right, daggy, old fashioned seafood-sauce-drenched prawns served in a martini glass. For a while I have assumed this is something I should be ashamed about. But. This year my friend Ryan gave me a copy of the "Heston Blumenthal at home"cookbook for Christmas and I discovered I am actually incredibly cool. That's because Heston apparently loves prawn cocktails too! What I love about Heston's recipe is that t...

Four Figs and a Duck. Thursday, July 28, 2011. Christmas in July: Roast Turkey. It was the night before Christmas and all through the house. was the scent of a 9 kilogram turkey roasting perfectly in the oven! Having now used every "perfect turkey roast" tip I could find in every recipe book and online site in existence, I heartily recommend the following ways to ensure a super juicy bird:. Put butter under the skin of your bird.lots of it. Baste regularly, at the very least it made the skin delicious.

Four Figs & a Duck: September 2011
http://fourfigsandaduck.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Four Figs and a Duck. Friday, September 30, 2011. Paris Foodie Top Four. More recently my Top Four has included 1) fresh sheets, 2) reading a can't-put-it-down novel under my doona on a cold day, and - as a result of this week in Paris - two new additions: 3)French champagne aperitifs and 4) nutmeg (especially in a chilled leek soup on a hot night). Of course, all Top Four entries are subject to change without notice. So, what exactly have we been up to in Paris, you might ask? 4) Dinner at Gaspard de la...

Four Figs & a Duck: October 2011
http://fourfigsandaduck.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Four Figs and a Duck. Tuesday, October 4, 2011. The Duck At Camont. Autumn (and we) have arrived in Gascony. At least it's supposed to be autumn.the leaves are turning and there are horse chestnuts littered everywhere underfoot, but it's been 30 degrees Celcius most days with deliciously blue skies and long, light evenings. The locals say this is the hottest October in a century, I am definitely not complaining! Charcuterie seems to be a growing theme in this week's journey. The French love nothing m...

Four Figs & a Duck: November 2011

Four Figs and a Duck. Friday, November 25, 2011. What's Happening at the Farmers' Market! Tis the season for cherries at the Farmers' Market this morning - some were served up in pre-weighed bowls, some in massive piles of ruby red orbs and, disturbingly, some handed out by a man dressed in a large cherry suit (I kid you not) and scaring small children with his high-pitched squeals. Truly frightening. And piles of lettuce. Plaited garlic strands are back too, just in time for Christmas. 1 egg, beaten.

Four Figs and a Duck. Sunday, September 16, 2012. Up up and away! After a long period of blog silence I am happy to announce my return to Four Figs! I have packed up my life in Canberra and moved to Geneva, Switzerland for the next three years. I've already made it to the nearby Ferney Saturday farmer's market (thanks to Ruth, Nick and Ava! Make it to the blog as it had been too long since my last post. It's nice to know my presence on Four Figs has been missed! Lemon Chicken with Braised Fennel. 4 chick...

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Blessings in the Storm. Amid the stories of heartache from the tremendous storms that have plagued our country I’ve also heard many stories of near misses and miracles. I believe whole-heartedly that God's hand of protection was on us during the storm and as a people we should be grateful for His mercy. As Paul told the church at Colosse, we are to let our “roots go down into him.” When we follow him and build our lives on him, our faith will grow. We will ov...And now, just as ...

Four Figs & a Duck: May 2012
http://fourfigsandaduck.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Four Figs and a Duck. Saturday, May 19, 2012. Of two things I am sure - firstly, my mushroom lasagna tastes even better now than when I first whipped it up for the unexpected arrival of a vegetarian at my dinner party in Jakarta. And, secondly, it really is not the most photogenic of dishes and doesn't look nearly as good in the pictures as it tastes! Rather than force the vegetarian to nibble on green salad all night, my recipe was born. 200 grams field mushrooms, sliced. 1/2 cup dried porcini mushrooms.
