My Great Sabbatical: July 2009
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Set up for Success! Tis true, the next stop after this place should put me 'in country'. But when. I get there is another story, none of us have been issued weapons and i am not even sure the 41st IBCT - the unit that i am supposed to link up with 'in country' - even knows i am here. The internet situation is similar to 500 people waiting to use 10 toilets. Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Down the Rabbit Hole. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Set up for Success!

My Great Sabbatical: September 2009
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 20, 2009. A Beastly Storm on the Last Day of Ramadan. This post is from some writing I did in the dark early morning while on my watchtower shift earlier today. I was proud of myself for being able to write in pitch darkness with using only the lightning from the storm as guidance. 8216;What a beast of a lightning storm. It is raining in Iraq today! Monday, September 7, 2009. Week 14 and Day 101. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). This is an online journal of my deployment to Iraq. I was a...

My Great Sabbatical: The Complaints, So Far
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2010/01/complaints-so-far.html
Monday, January 11, 2010. The Complaints, So Far. I hate to begin the new year by griping and moaning. But some is truly due. These past few months have blessed me with character building experiences, laden me with humility, and have tested and perfected my ability of patience beyond any expected values. First, I have to complain about the food. Have you ever eaten a dish commonly referred to as "Vommadon Rice"? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. The Complaints, So Far.

My Great Sabbatical: June 2009
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 28, 2009. Wednesday, June 17, 2009. The transportation to ft leonardwood will take me there sometime this week. I hope it is later, perhaps sunday, but i'm not going to cry if it is sooner. The weather here is only becoming more hot and humid. The night before last we had an amazing bout of thunder and lightning. This happened during the wonderful hours of 2amish, so i was unable to enjoy the storm properly. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. We qualified on the M16 range today. No true reason was g...

My Great Sabbatical: Spring Has Left...It Is Hot Now.
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2010/03/spring-has-leftit-is-hot-now.html
Monday, March 8, 2010. Spring Has Left.It Is Hot Now. The Great News: 40ish days left! Spring did arrive, did its business, then just up and left. Well, I suppose it was either this or to say that there was no winter. You could also say that Iraq had a mild winter with a two week spring and an explosive beginning to the summer. Things are definitely heating up over here. So, I am almost out of here (crosses fingers.) The last time this unit deployed they had to do an additional 3 months past their ex...

My Great Sabbatical: December 2009
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 9, 2009. It is strange to watch the seasons change in Iraq. They do not change as they do in the more northern temperate regions. When summer comes here, it dries out most of the vegetation. It looses it's green life color as does what happens in the autumn of cooler climates. Just as atypical as the world coming alive before winter, it will all fade, crumble and die from the spring. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. This Day in History.

My Great Sabbatical: May 2009
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2009. The plane trip was surreal, i had no bearing where i was or where i was going except for a welling pang of fear in my stomach reminding me of my latest military endeavor. Nothing abnormal happened, except for the flight from Atlanta to Columbus, GA. The flight was almost exclusively military. One needn't know that the town Columbus has the nearest airport to Ft. Benning. Home of the infantry, to see that the flight attendants. Night I became a member of Delta Co CRC. This is an onli...

My Great Sabbatical: April 2010
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Back, Home, Alive and In One Piece. I guess leaving Iraq and Kuwait had a few hiccups, but overall it was smooth. I did not lose any of my bags. I was able to stop in Ireland as the plane refueled. Fortunately, I missed the Icelandic volcano eruption by a week. Some of the units leaving Iraq were delayed because of this. My Great Sabbatical: October 2009
http://eriksabbatical.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 16, 2009. I spoke with one of the Ugandans I work with in the tower today about Uganda. It occurred to me to ask him if they ate bugs in Uganda, I was trying to get a rise out of him mostly. To my surprise, they do! I think a trip to Africa would be neat, but I really hate mosquitoes and humidity bugs. If it weren’t for the bugs, I might actually put forth effort to visit a place like Uganda. I am going to look for a can of ants though. I hear they have a nutty flavor. This Day in History.
