Albert Caldwell van Roden IV (Bret), Chadwick Ward van Roden, and. Tyler William van Roden are three brothers born in the rural Amish town. Of Lancaster Pennsylvania. They were raised in a typical American family. By a Dutch father who instilled discipline and integrity with a wooden paddle. And an Irish mother that showered her boys with love. They all cruised through. Childhood with abounding academic and athletic achievements. The boys realized. Contact Us: sailbrokencompass@gmail.com.

Captain's Blog: July 2012
http://sailbrokencompass.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
What's happening on the Broken Compass? Friday, July 13, 2012. Arriving in Trinidad marks a pivotal point in our journey. In general, the sailing aspect is complete since there are no more ocean crossings. Up the chain of islands, the longest sails can be done in a weekend. It remains nothing to underestimate, but fewer people “disappear” at sea as most find themselves getting lost on the islands. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Broken Compass Home Page. What's happening on the Broken Compass? Wednesday, May 23, 2012. After a few days hanging out ignoring idle threats from the Policia Federal, we are heading off tomorrow morning to Trinidad and Tobago. Captain's Blog: December 2011
http://sailbrokencompass.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
What's happening on the Broken Compass? Sunday, December 4, 2011. Cocos Islands consist of two atol. Ls in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Coconut trees, white sand beaches, clear blue water, and prospects of fish made the decision to stop an easy one. As a territory of Austrailia, the atoll is protected, resulting in an environment rich in wildlife. Spinner dolphins escorted us into the lagoon and several manta rays joined the welcome party. What's happening on the Broken Compass? Saturday, April 14, 2012. A couple days after arriving in Capetown,we found fellow Americans. It is odd to see other American sailors on this side of the world. These guys (www.carina2011.com) are the real deal and moving fast to compete in each major sailing race around the world. Good luck Carina! We sailed over to Clifton beach with JMU friends to spear some fish. Successfully procuring dinner by spear is still one of the most satisfying activities. We worked ou...

Captain's Blog: St. Helena
http://sailbrokencompass.blogspot.com/2012/05/charting-remote-area-where-theisland-of.html
What's happening on the Broken Compass? Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Charting the remote area where the island of St. Helena lies, ancient cartographers would inscribe: 'here there be dragons.' The high barren cliffs surrounding this seemingly lifeless island could easily be perceived by early navigators as the last stop before sailing off a flat world. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Captain's Blog: Funso not so fun
http://sailbrokencompass.blogspot.com/2012/02/funso-not-so-fun.html
What's happening on the Broken Compass? Monday, February 6, 2012. Funso not so fun. The Broken Compass's departure strategy is to leave in bad weather. Port Louis was no exception as we left with the heaviest wind in over a month. Two separate coast guard officials warned us of the rough conditions. The second official took one look at our boat bucking next to the wharf and started questioning our decision to leave. We joked he would rescue us in a couple hours. He did not share our humor. Resigning to t...

Saturday, August 29, 2009. Parking is such sweet sorrow. Andrew and I of course have years of experience so we don’t need to communicate much. After 3 weeks we were hardly talking at all! 8220;Not that one, that one there is better”, he shouted. “* * * “ . The good thing of course that this incident will quickly fade from our memories. 8220;It was fun sailing in the Ionian wasn’t it “ , “yes, er. when was that? Thursday, June 25, 2009. Where Are They Now? Saturday, May 10, 2014. Passing under the Bay Bridge - - - YAY! Friday morning James Taylor the service manager and Tim the mechanic gave us the green light and we were off! We made the 9 am opening of Great Bridge bridge and slipped right into the lock with five other boats. We were out by 9:25. The next twelve miles only had a few slow downs as we waited for bridges to open and at the RR bridge they were doing a safety inspection - - - that took about 20 minutes. The next turn in ou...
