Life of a nomad. Sunday, March 2, 2014. So i have a new little monster in my life. her name is alexie. or lexi for short. Once in a while she decides to try her hand at climbing things, and will very intently start up my leg. yeowch. and her favorite game in the morning is to hide in the kitchen near my feet and leap out at them, in full battle gear from behind the curtain. tremendous fun for her! She's a humanizing (animalizing? The downside to having a cat in the house full-time is loads of allergens&#...

life of a nomad: August 2013

http://sailingnomad.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Life of a nomad. Friday, August 30, 2013. The main thing on my mind right now is home. carving out a little place for myself in a new environment. of course, the first thing that comes up, is stuff. what we fill our spaces with to individualize them and create comfort. After the exhilaration of seeing all my furniture walking out of the house, even getting rid of many sentimental items, what is left? I have to admit. i am having a stuff-related panic. which i wasn't expecting. Therefore i have spent more...

Life of a nomad. Wednesday, January 8, 2014. The wonders of a vacation (did i never take one of these before? When i had the freedom (ie - dinero) to take a holiday a couple weeks ago, i quickly leapt at the chance. a few phone calls and a stop at the bus station later, i was on the road. destination, quito. Even in those first few minutes, as we pulled out of the terminal, my head started to clear. Only three months before i had arrived in macas, totally unsure of what was in store. At the end of the we...

life of a nomad: September 2013

http://sailingnomad.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Life of a nomad. Tuesday, September 3, 2013. It's Sunday morning in a little park off rue Notre Dame. I have walked by here many times over the years and never stopped. Today there are two pianos on a low platform, one covered with flowers in pots, the other half-draped with a white tarp. Chairs arranged loosely in front. I decide to settle in with my book and see what happens. He gets up and bashfully walks away amidst more applause, "I'm done now, have to shake the nervousness from my hands.". I finish...

life of a nomad: homage and parallels

http://sailingnomad.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-power-of-visualization.html

Life of a nomad. Saturday, March 15, 2014. I've been stuck inside the house this week with yet another bad cold (rainy season, will you just give it UP already? This song especially stood out for me, i immediately tabbed it and added it to my list of cover songs. it's got such a lovely hopeful vibe, the joy of embracing uncertainty. Maybe something like this? This is shuar by the way. Anyways, i digress. so i was listening a lot to crowded house that year. the expansive imagery of the lyrics, mus...So th...

Over here, in france! He’s a gentleman; she’s not picky. →. Did you ever have a pen pal? At some point in elementary school it was suggested that we reach out to someone our age in another country by an exchange of written letters. “Why? But I already have something like that. With my Gramme! The art of pen pal? Seeing as I was the resident expert on the topic. Mhmm… but there wasn’t so much of an onslaught as there were a few grunts followed by whinings of “Do we haaaaaave to? Her letters are always kin...

korean barbecue - grilled pork belly and mountains of good-for-liver greens

http://www.tastes-good-to-me.com/korean-barbecue

Tastes good to moi! He’s a gentleman; she’s not picky. Gomawoyo, “thank you”, is the first word I learned in Korean. Well, it’s one of the ways to say thank you, but it’s the first way I was told, so I’m sticking to it. Since then I’ve added to my repertoire “Yes” “No” and “Hello”… The progress is slow. One of our new friends was giving an instructional talk in Korean and invited us to attend. Have you ever had that dream where you break out in fluent conversation and shock everybody? Afterwards we were ...

Sailing "No Keys"

Tuesday, March 5, 2013. No Name Harbour, Key Biscayne. This can be an excellent anchorage almost in all wind conditions. When we arrived there were maybe a handful of boats. There were a few cabin cruisers and a few sailboats. The harbor filled up quickly over the next few days and it was party central on the weekend. There is a high end fish restaurant here, a laundry area and lots of picnic areas. Chris and I did a lot of walking here as our bicycles were still mounted on our Deck. This is our "Pet"!
