Just another WordPress.com weblog. Finally Uploaded Some Zambia Pictures. January 11, 2010 in Uncategorized. And hippo with rice tastes delicious. I’m pretty sure the hippo meat came from poachers in the bush, at least according the Zambian who bought and cooked it. Click the following link for pictures of Zambia, and one bald Bryce:. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Of Chalk and Cheese Puffs. March 12, 2010 in Uncategorized. I wrote this post last Thursday.). I’ll leave you with a scary thought, something I thought about even before I started hearing others talk about it. What if all the HIV/AIDS benefits actually cause some people to try to contract HIV? This thought first came to me after both traveling into the bush where extreme poverty exists and thinking about the value of certain benefits distributed. I’ve been reading...
Gardening and Wedding | SALT in Choma

Just another WordPress.com weblog. October 11, 2009 in Uncategorized. My left hand has three blisters from planting two paw-paws, the British word for papaya, trees yesterday. I’ve always wanted to try gardening, partly because many wise men, such as Voltaire, promoted it as part of the good life, and so far, I do find it both relaxing and fruitful. After all, I take the utilitarian approach to growing things: why grow something you can’t eat? Help would get to those who need it most. Work would go well.
Daily Routine | SALT in Choma

Just another WordPress.com weblog. September 24, 2009 in Uncategorized. I start the day by getting up around 6 or 7 depending on whether the village dogs barked out their vocal chords during the night. After dipping my bowl into the hot water boiling on the stove for someone’s bath, I pour myself some Jungle Oats, a South African version of Quaker Oats, and munch away after adding some peanut butter, the natural kind since the processed stuff is almost impossible to buy. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Three for the Price of One. February 17, 2010 in Uncategorized. Here are three blog posts I didn’t post when I wrote them. Don’t Complain About U.S. Public Schools. In other news, I’m leaving Zambia a little sooner than expected. Instead of leaving in late July I’ll be leaving in early July in order to start a one-year masters program in accounting at William and Mary. I should even be around for 4. My friends might look at me and think I’ve studied my sanity away, but ...

An MCCers experience in the Mountain Kingdom. Archive for May, 2010. The “Foreign” media and the World Cup. May 31, 2010. It’s thoroughly entertaining to observe the African media wage the airwaves war against the big bad conglomerates of North America and Europe. But undoubetedly there will be all those pictures of shacks and what not with the lavish world cup stadium in the background. You know what: that is not the point. We know Africa is very poor in comparison to the rest of the world. ...

Nine Points on Men’s Terror of Women. Originally posted on Instagram. I’m thinking about getting kicked off Facebook for posting picture of Carolee Scheemann’s 1975 MoMA-owned and exhibited signature work of art, “Interior Scroll.”. What is it about women and blood and openings that so terrify male culture? That make the idea of biological blood abject, bad, taboo. I didn’t even post the Carolee Schneeman as an Image on my Facebook Wall. It was in a long thread about uses and processes of paint...Twin Re...

SALT in Choma | Just another WordPress.com weblog
Just another WordPress.com weblog. Back from the dead. June 1, 2010 in Uncategorized. I’m back from the Hades of the blogosphere. Before I forget or leave Zambia, I thought I would detail some of my observations on the people of Zambia, at least the Zambians in Southern Province where I stay. One thought that continually pops into my head wherever I go is do they care? The care I’m talking about covers both self-care and care for others. I ask do they care? I had a crowd watch me shave the other morning.
