This Average American Home. A Bit About Me. Tonight was the dessert reception before my first SCBWI conference tomorrow in Fredrick, MD. I have been to a few other conferences, but not any specifically for children book writers, or even ones just for writers. So, I had a little bit of an idea of what to expect, but I was still walking into the unknown. Can't wait until tomorrow! Looking forward to learning much and hopefully getting a little better at my schmoozing! Where do you dream your ideal place is?

This Average American Home. A Bit About Me. How a Book is Made according to Mac Barnett. This weekend at the Gaithersburg Book Festival. I had the pleasure of hearing Jon Scieszka and Mac Barnett speak together in a talk called Picture Book Fun. (Read more about their talk and the festival HERE. The audience LOVED seeing them and Mac Barnett shared how his first book was made. I wish I had a video of this because the pictures don't do justice to how funny and engaging his explanation was! I'll get to tha...

This Average American Home. A Bit About Me. Hello 2013 - An Update and a Surprise. So, I'm a little behind. January and February went by in the blink of an eye and I will turn 30 in two weeks! I am very excited to see where this leads! I'm hoping to submit at least one story to agents/editors before the end of the year. I'll share what I learn along the way and if you would like to read some kid lit, I would love your feedback. Really good feedback may result in baked goods for you and yours! Politician ...

This Average American Home. A Bit About Me. Week 1 PiBoIdMo Done! There has been a lot of chatter recently about how great the kid lit community is and I completely agree. I have truly enjoyed the openness and camaraderie that the online community offers along with the acceptance and encouragement that surround the interactions. It still amazes me how quickly I felt like part of the community. My local SCBWI Region has been a wonderful community as well. Art Date anyone? Right Back to it. I like the syst...

This Average American Home. A Bit About Me. 9 down 3 to go (AKA the Underwear Race). I was hard to miss in those orange tights. I ran the race with my youngest sister, the Tumbler (she volunteered at the ZOOMA Annapolis. UNDY 5000 Course Map. The Politician and PT raced too! Got a personal record.) By about half a minute. That was quite exciting. Running with a buddy really does help! She loves to hold hands when she runs. PT held this sign for about 3 minutes. Things I learned from race #9:. Racing with...

All the details can be found here. Without fourth ado, here is my Holiday Mishap:. A Juicy Cautionary Tale for the Traveling Mouse. As told by Auntie M. I called for him. I raced to the kitchen. Then I watched it happen. Cat w...

This Average American Home. A Bit About Me. Halfway through November. So now Christmas music is playing in just about ever retail space. I'm not prepared! Well actually, I should be done with all the extra shopping I'm doing before the end of the month. Whoot! I'm trying to keep December more about my 3 Fs: Family, Friends and FOOD. Yum. I'm excited just thinking about it. :). Each idea counts. Some won't grow in to anything quickly, but they have the potential. It's all about the potential. These year h...
