Sarah in Kampala

Thursday, September 4, 2008. Well ladies and gentlemen, this is the last post being written while in. I will post some more pictures next week, once I have fast internet again. Here is the plan for tonight: eat dinner, get to the airport ridiculously early (O’Hare has trained me well), get on a plane, and go to sleep. I will be getting into. As everyone warned me before I came here, I have mixed feelings about coming home. I will miss my new friends, the weather, and UNAD. I appreciate the fact that in.

Sarah in Kampala: The Nile

http://www.sarahinkampala.blogspot.com/2008/08/hello-it-has-been-busy-week-and-next.html

Sunday, August 17, 2008. It has been a busy week, and next week will probably be even busier. Here are some highlights. Tuesday, August 12 was one of the BEST days I’ve had in. Maybe in my whole life. I rode a boat on the. This is a lifetime dream come true. We also went to. Which is absolutely beautiful.but really are more just rapids on the. I went with a short-term mission team visiting. To work with Hope Alive. We had the best time taking a ridiculous number of pictures. For dinner, we went to a real...

Sarah in Kampala: August 2008

http://www.sarahinkampala.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Want to hear a funny story? So way back in January when I started researching for this trip, I read about Alex Ndeezi, the first deaf Member of Parliament in. He is quoted in multiple articles discussing the dangerous results of not educating the deaf about HIV/AIDS. He compared the lowering HIV/AIDS rates among the general population due to national education programs to the deaf community that remained at risk due to lack of effective communication with health educators.

Sarah in Kampala: Photos!

http://www.sarahinkampala.blogspot.com/2008/08/photos.html

Monday, August 11, 2008. Here are the pictures from the past week or so. We drove over the equator on the trip to Masaka! I think this is a really interesting sign. It is in Luganda (I think), but an English version is in Kampala that says "Would you let this man be with your daughter? Then why are you with his? Cross-generational sex stops here." I learned from a seminar I attended last spring that this is a serious issue in East Africa that contributes to the spread of AIDS. Then we came to the picture...

Sunday, August 31, 2008. And look at this sweet cat! Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Here are some pictures of Ani.  We visited the site with a Canadian guy, a British guy, and a Japanese girl who were all staying at the same hotel.  . The river is the border with Armenia.  Also, I asked about the Armenian mining activity that was clearly visible over the border, and the general consensus was that it had nothing to do with wanting to blame Turkey for not taking care of the ruins.  . And general Ani pictures:.

Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Here are some pictures of Kars! 160;Traveling with Josef was great, because since he was a guy, it was easier for him to strike up conversations with random people.  For instance, all the boys who wanted us to take their pictures.  The girls just giggled and made fun of us.  I guess some things don't change. Alyssa in Turkey: May 2008

http://alymaria.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 31, 2008. Later: "Çay var mı? 160;"Çay yok."  Which basically means, "Does tea exist? 160;"Tea does not exist."  So I ordered a cup of coffee instead.  The lady then went off on this long string of unfamiliar Turkish words, and my look of confusion and terror resulted in me accidentally refusing a complimentary piece of Turkish delight.  . http://alymaria.blogspot.com/2008/08/kars-call-to-prayer.html

Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Kars Call to Prayer. I took a video of the intersection of at least three calls to prayer around Kars Citadel.  It's not high quality, but I think it's pretty cool. Sarah gaat naar Italië

Sarah gaat naar Italië. Maandag 28 januari 2008.

My Japan | Rockin' out in Gifu

Rockin' out in Gifu. August 3, 2009. Somehow, after a bunch of hours, a few movies, and copious amounts of airplane food (which I rather like – I guess I don’t have a terribly distinguished palate – oh, except for the weird chicken stuff for dinner – that was kind of gross), we made it to the Land of the Rising Sun! It seems like it can – leave a message if you feel otherwise. Speaking of which, you should leave a message anyway so I don’t feel sad and lonely. Go! June 29, 2009. Insert witty title here].

Sarah in South Africa

Sarah in South Africa. This blog recounts experiences as a Notre Dame Mission Volunteer in South Africa, where I'm entering a second year of voluntary service as a teacher at St. Peter Claver School in the township of Maokeng. I hope these writings bless my family, friends, and benefactors in the vocation of their own lives. Sunday, February 27, 2011. The Schola Cantorum sang wonderful hymns, both in the Gregorian style and traditional Sesotho and Zulu gospel, supported by the most wonderful organist.
