The Silent, Underwatery World. January 19, 2016. Inspired by Jacques Cousteau, Ken Done and an unassuming scuba diving magazine that made it into my studio, these drawings are a real tribute to my passion for form. Kit and Ace Supper Club. September 18, 2015. A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to spend the evening with some delightfully clever folk, as part of a Kit and Ace Supper Club. Held at TW FineArt. Photo by Tamika Keioskie. The Year of Letters. June 23, 2015. So I set out writ...
Ladylike Sailing: August 2014
http://www.ladylikesailing.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Don't get me wrong, it's been so nice to see everyone, but we're not back in our old apartments with our favourite and familiar places and spots (we still don't have an apartment! So we haven't gone back to the life we knew and missed here, it's all very new and different and it's hard. It's freezing, it's fall in August! The one question that people often ask that I always have an answer to is "would you ever do it again? Got to spend some time with this cutie! 12 hrs after we ...

Tuesday, April 29, 2014. We Officially Chose the Best Winter to Miss! Everytime we speak to friends and family back home all we hear is how bad the winter is, how it is never going to end (not sure that it has yet, so this might not be funny for those of you still suffering! Point is, I am meant for more tropical climates, and while people always complain about winter, this year was actually the worst. It has actually been proven that this has been the worst winter from 1898 in Winnipeg! It really happen...
Ladylike Sailing: May 2014

Saturday, May 31, 2014. There are forts everywhere! I mistook this for an original roller coaster. Along the water we saw a little otter poke his head out, he was so cute! The little boy and his friend. I think he's going to be a sailor when he grows up! We had a smooth passage, though the wind picked up a lot a the end and we were flying (8.5 knots! Links to this post. Friday, May 30, 2014. A Night on the Town in St Augustine. Couldn't help myself :). The first use of Tiffany Blue. There was very cheap ...

Friday, March 28, 2014. Dexter and I have a Scare. Dexter and I both came into some unfortunate situations, Dexter, luckily, came out unscathed. I on the other hand, was not quite as lucky. I'll start with Dexters scare. Mine is much less romantic, and slightly more dangerous. I was cooking dinner as usual. I lit the oven. I went back to check on it and noticed that it had gone out so I went to re-light it, and KABOOM! So now John will give me a break in the kitchen and take over for a while (yeah right!
Ladylike Sailing: July 2014
http://www.ladylikesailing.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2014. After we enjoyed our last sunset and evening at anchor, we woke up and got moving at the crack of dawn (I'm talking 5am people! Because we still had 28 miles to go with a very strong current against us. While under way, we hit a milestone of 6000 nautical miles travelled aboard Topanga, which is 6905 miles and 11112 kilometers, not too shabby if I do say so myself! We finally made it to Montreal! Holy crappers, we did 6000 miles! They even had a fireworks show to welcome us back!
Ladylike Sailing: Lock, Stock and Barrel
http://www.ladylikesailing.com/2014/07/lock-stock-and-barrel.html
Saturday, July 26, 2014. Lock, Stock and Barrel. Going into the locks. One of the very "colorful" yards in Ft Edward. We had these on the BBQ! You needed a personalized license plate? I think we know who you are. Just mowing the lawn! Docked in Ft Edward. We were fortunate to go out for 2 sails on the Champlain River on Laughing Gull, which is a 19ft marina that uses tiller steering. It was especially nice since Topanga is currently sail-less, before carrying on. Dexter loves his winch. Of course the sho...
Ladylike Sailing: November 2013

Friday, November 29, 2013. Dreams Do Come True at Disney! We took the ferry from the parking lot to the Magic Kingdom and when we entered I was totally taken aback at how amazing it was. It was a little town, with city hall, the town theatre and a barber and everything, so cool! John needed a haircut, and what a better place than the barber in the Magic Kingdom? Notice the pixie dust? The Bibidi Bobidi Boutique. The jews were there too! When we met Micky, he asked us how long we had been married, and I s...
Ladylike Sailing: October 2013

Thursday, October 31, 2013. Georgetown: The Ghost Capital of the South. After a very quiet and serene night anchored in a secluded creek in Cypress Swamp, with only the sounds of nature, we continued down the Waccamaw River, that had amazing foliage (yes I said foliage) with beautiful Spanish moss on the trees to the historical town of Georgetown. A great place for publicity! They are also famous for their rice museum! The famous Kaminsky house. This apparently turned into a photoshoot. Links to this post.

Home :: Sarah Steel Textiles
Textile Designer and Maker. Photographic observation of light and shadow together with grids and meshes provides much of the inspiration for my textile design practice and has led me to use natural yarns combined with clear monofilament resulting in cloth with an open yet translucent quality. Not only does the resulting textile create its own shadow patterns but it also allows tantalising glimpses of what might lie beyond the hanging fabric. Such textile pieces are ideal:.
