From Dark to Light in Iceland!

From Dark to Light in Iceland! Monday, May 25, 2009. My packing is coming along. So far, I have a densely rolled layer of clothes on the bottom of my duffle bag and have begun to work on fitting in my shoes in the most efficient way possible. My room looks messy, much to my despair, but my wall decorations still are cheerfully adorning the wall. Wow So much has happened in the last couple of weeks. We have been going NON stop! I was in a short sleeved t-shirt for a couple of minutes one day! But before w...

From Dark to Light in Iceland!: School's Out!

http://sarainiceland.blogspot.com/2009/05/schools-out.html

From Dark to Light in Iceland! Tuesday, May 5, 2009. After an intense finals week (actually, weeks), I "wrote" my last exam this morning! Schedules are so variable due to continued finals and visitors that it is really hard to find a reasonable number of people to travel with. Because of that, I think we have settled on accomplishing everything we've been meaning to accomplish right around Reykjavik and then doing a whirlwind trip to the north after we return from our field trip. I got waved to REPEATEDLY.

From Dark to Light in Iceland!: The Visit!

http://sarainiceland.blogspot.com/2009/03/visit.html

From Dark to Light in Iceland! Tuesday, March 31, 2009. On the way to Snaefellsnes. Lunch in the car. Why didn't Daddy come? On the way to the dramatic beach. It doesn't look nearly as dramatic as it actually was! Solheimajokull (one of Myrdalsjokull's outlet glaciers). Lunch out of the wind! Just from this introduction, one can probably tell that it was a great week, jam-packed (Muir-McCune family style) with fun trips! Flybus and meeting them at the airport! I was paranoid about missing them, so I got ...

From Dark to Light in Iceland!: Melting the Ice in Spain!

http://sarainiceland.blogspot.com/2009/04/melting-ice-in-spain.html

From Dark to Light in Iceland! Saturday, April 25, 2009. Melting the Ice in Spain! After missing the bus from Cambridge back to the London airport (our only missed connection on the trip, and of course, the last one we needed to make). NOTE: Pictures in reverse order again, sorry. Eating our dessert platter in Cambridge. On the bus from Alicante. Waiting for our second couch surf host. Eating a covert build-your-own-burrito lunch in Burger King when the beach in Alicante. Trying out the Capoeira. Overall...

From Dark to Light in Iceland!: February 2009

http://sarainiceland.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

From Dark to Light in Iceland! Sunday, February 22, 2009. A Night in the Bathroom. He probably drove us for 10 or 15 min, before dropping us off at another junction in the road. This time, we were hardly out of the car before a huge land rover pulling an equally huge trailer (covered in big, fancy decals) pulled up beside us. I can't even remember if we had our thumbs out! We had brought some snacks (apples, cheese, crackers, dried cranberries, cookies, and bananas), so we sort of rationed those out thro...

Sara in Hong Kong. Just another WordPress.com site. Jacqui Banasyznski, The Pulitzer Prize Winner. Posted by sarainhk in Uncategorized. The first time I met Jacqui Banaszynski, I thought she might be a tough woman, with long white hair, sharp eyes and a high nose on her face. She walks fast, talks fast and laughs loudly. Imagine you go to the airport to pick her up but you only have a small photo of her, and it turns out you are waiting at exit A, and she comes out from exit B. What do you do? She won th...

A Year in Himeji, Japan

A Year in Himeji, Japan. Friday, August 15, 2008. I thought my last post would be the last, but I have to tell you about Obon. Obon. Is a three day long holiday for worshipping ancestors. Many businesses close this week, so although Obon is not a public holiday, many people have the week off (sort of like the week between Christmas and New Years). My friend's daughter and niece, rinsing their mouths before entering the cemetary. If you don't believe me, see the photos! After their sparklers went out, the...

Jerusalem, my temporary home.

Jerusalem, my temporary home. Sunday, March 31, 2013. Who knew that when I went to Jerusalem I would learn how to herd sheep? I didn't.but we definitely took a field trip to this place where we got to herd sheep, and there were goats too! They kept themselves pretty segregated though. What did I learn from this experience? Probably that I am not cut out to be a shepherd. But really, we talked about how Jesus Christ is the good shepherd and he will always help his children find their way. How cool is that?

Moving Out, Swearing in, Settling in, and Just Generally Swearing. Well, once again I failed horribly at keeping up with this blog, but so it goes. So, let me start off with what I left off with last post. Swearing in. I moved out of my host family’s house on January 13. It’s not like I’m gonna leave behind the shoes I bought or all the free clothes I’d gotten. Swearing in happened on January 15. Okay, mini-rant over. Moving on! You see the Peace Corps oath is like a lot of government oaths: wordy with a...
