A watershed is defined as: all the land (and everything on it) that drains into a stream or lake; a drainage basin. Storm Lake has 14,400 acres in its watershed. The LPA is committed to working with individuals, businesses and government entities on projects that improve the quality of the water that runs into the lake. Projects that have been done within the watershed include the installation of Riparian areas and buffer strips to prevent Ag runoff along streams that feed Storm Lake.

Throughout the years, the lake has provided the OTM community a place for solace and recreation. Fishing, paddle-boating, kayaking, picnic are only a few of these activities. Fish, turtles, Mallard ducks, Canada geese, a redfox, many songbirds are regular visitors, including a magnificent great blue heron. That feeds on small fish. Oak Tree Meadows was developed in 1976. The developers included a lake as part of the community and stipulated in the bylaws for its maintenance and protection.
