Savor and Swap

Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Gooey pumpkins and cheese and bread and onions! OK, Sarah has inspired me to get back on the blogging bandwagon! Below is a recipe I should have posted immediately but I was too happy eating it to write. 2 small sugar pumpkins, with tops cut off and innards hollowed out, as if you were making a jack-o-lantern. About 2 cups of 1-inch cubed crusty bread (I used ciabatta because I wanted lots of satiny holes to soak up the cheese and broth). 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced.

Savor and Swap: November 2007

http://savorandswap.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 29, 2007. Fowl goals in life. Over the years I have discussed with longing, drooling lips my dear love for the roast chicken. I spent thanksgiving, hovering over my mother's shoulder and pouring over cookbooks in order to concoct the perfect roast chicken. We settled on a conglomeration of recipes, producing a bird with a lovely layer of mixed herbs under the skin, lemon wedges in the cavity, and a thick butter rub. A classic. Roast Chicken with Saffron and Lemons. 1 3-lb. chicken.

Savor and Swap: August 2007

Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Clam Roll and Fries Detox-Thank you garden eggplants! When I ended my job before going to grad school at the beginning of August, I assumed that I would spend the entire month just bustin' out new recipes nonstop and cooking up a storm. And that sort of happened, at first. But then something weird happened.I found that the more free time I had, the less inclined I was to do ANYTHING at all. I'm apparently not one of those people who says, "Great! How does this happen? And if our...

Savor and Swap: goan-ish prawn masala

http://savorandswap.blogspot.com/2010/01/goan-ish-prawn-masala.html

Thursday, January 21, 2010. First off, I admit that I stole this off a fantastic food blog (http:/ www.quickindiancooking.com/archives/vegitarian/ ). And then tweaked the recipe to my own liking. 2 tsp whole cumin. 1 tsp turmeric powder. 2 whole dry red chillies. 1 1/2″ ginger. 1 large onion finely sliced. 13 tbsp white vinegar. 1/3 cup of coconut milk. Roast the whole spices then combine with ginger (chopped) until you have a smooth paste. Yes, this means whipping out the ole mortar and pestle.

Savor and Swap: July 2008

http://savorandswap.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 26, 2008. Why is it that food tastes so much better when you eat and cook it outside? Is it contextual or is it chemical? Is it just better because it is contained in the whole experience of being out in fresh air, or is there some compound in outdoor air that gets into the food and makes everything tastier and more satisfying? Who cares. It just tastes better. 1 Bacon-wrapped whole trout (stolen from Chowhound). 2 Arugula and peach salad. 2 fresh, ripe, local peaches. 2 tbs olive oil.

Savor and Swap: March 2008

http://savorandswap.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 26, 2008. AHHHHHHHHH. The beginnings of spring! What a relief. There's actual daylight when I get out of the windowless bomb shelter known as the School of Public Health at the end of the day, crocuses are blooming everywhere, everyone's starting to look less depressed, the Red Sox are back in action (albeit randomly in Japan, so not quite yet, but I'll take what I can get). AND, my friends, AND, we can buy asparagus again! Sigh Things are looking up. 1/2 lb frozen garden peas.
