The HepatoSys network initiated the serial of conferences on Systems Biology of Mammalian Cells (SBMC). The first conference took place in Heidelberg. Chaired by Ursula Klingmüller) in 2008 and had a strong focus on signaling networks. Two years later Marino Zerial hosted the conference in Dresden. With a focus and endocytosis. The last SBMC of the funding period which was organized by Jens Timmer in Freiburg. Linked different biological scales and showed first examples of multi-scale-models.

In the post-genomic era, understanding the molecular basis of complex biological processes requires both new experimental and conceptual approaches. High-throughput analytical methods provide a comprehensive dissection of the regulatory components acting in a biological process in various cellular and model organisms along the evolutionary scale. The Conference on Systems Biology of Mammalian Cells (SBMC) is organized by HepatoSys, the Federal German research initiative for Systems Biology of hepatocytes.
