He is building up the church and beginning to teach. Jesus begins his journey through the middle east and invited the first disciples to come with him. Jesus’s message is quite confronting to some people and there are somewho become very jealous . Some believed that he did not have the authority to chnage what they have been practicing for years.

I believe that Mark 8:34-35 was not only profound in Jesus’ time, but can be easily apllied tothe way we live our lives today. Jesus is explaining to the people that those who treasure their lives on earth have missed the point, rather we should grow and develop our lives in heaven. We can be so easily caught up in the temptations of earth and forget the riches that wait for us if we commit our lives to God.
