The Beacon of Knowledge. The picture at the top of the page shows the UAA/APU Consortium Library. On the University of Alaska Anchorage campus on a cold December morning (meaning about 10:00am). I took the picture my first year at UAA, and it is one of my favorite photographs. The green-lit structure at the top is the Beacon of Knowledge- an apt metaphor for a liberal arts education. Statement of Teaching Philosophy (March 2012). US History I, to 1877 (HIST 101). University of Alaska Anchorage.

The picture at the top of the page was one of my fondest momentos from my trips to France. It is a lazy Saturday afternoon in May outside the village of Briollay, located just northeast of Angers. I had spent the day hiking through the countryside, and captured this solitary fisherman under the steeple of the twelfth-century church steeple. Teeing Off for the. Scott A. Gavorsky, Ph.D. | Digital Humanities Projects

http://www.scottgavorsky.org/digital.html

Digital technology represents one of the greatest developments in contemporary education, which I believe enhances the liberal arts and our ability to communicate the human experience. Currently, however, we are at an experimental stage, trying to understand how to use this technology in both the classroom and in our own research. I believe that Mark 8:34-35 was not only profound in Jesus’ time, but can be easily apllied tothe way we live our lives today. Jesus is explaining to the people that those who treasure their lives on earth have missed the point, rather we should grow and develop our lives in heaven. We can be so easily caught up in the temptations of earth and forget the riches that wait for us if we commit our lives to God.
