Scraps and Strings

My word quilts on display. Monday, 10 August 2015. I'll admit it: I pre-wash all my quilting fabrics. I don't want to debate the merits pre-washing vs not,. But one of the side effects of washing yardage. Is fraying and tangling. So today I fired up my serger. And didn't change out the red thread to something more neutral in the sake of efficiency). And made loops of fabric. By sewing the cut end of a piece of yardage together. This was my solution to six light fat quarters:. Stay tuned for the results.

Scraps and Strings: A wall of Friday finishes

http://scrapsandstrings.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-wall-of-friday-finishes.html

My word quilts on display. Friday, 7 August 2015. A wall of Friday finishes. My biggest finish this week took me years to complete. Sure, this looks like a wall of blocks and flimsies,. But look closely at what's behind all that busyness. It's my new design wall,. Made with a quick trip to the discount fabric store. To buy 2.2 metres of 120 inch wide (3 metres). I've been wanting to do this for a long time,. And not only because I could cover up the the ugly wallpaper underneath. 36 by 36 inches. And a g...

Scraps and Strings: Zip to a giveaway

http://scrapsandstrings.blogspot.com/2011/10/zip-to-giveaway.html

My word quilts on display. Saturday, 22 October 2011. Zip to a giveaway. I made these little zip pouches out of a flag and text print last week for my mother. She took them on her trip to China to give them away. I also made a market bag from the same fabric. Here's a journal cover I put together recently from some graphic prints. And a panel with women wearing different fruits and vegetables. This didn't go to China, but to my quilty friend Cheryl, who celebrated a big birthday last week. Love the bags ...

Scraps and Strings: International pouch exchange

http://scrapsandstrings.blogspot.com/2015/05/international-pouch-exchange_33.html

My word quilts on display. Thursday, 21 May 2015. I've lost count of how many of these VW van pouches I've made-. Maybe 13 or 16? But I do know that it is worth it. I've made some great trades with these,. Including this handwoven one from Beth. Thanks so much, and yours is in the mail! This is a VW house. We have two. A fastback and a bug. Your little zipper bag will be in good company. ;). 21 May 2015 at 19:57. All your pouches are wonderful Brenda, bravo on making so many of them! 22 May 2015 at 06:59.

Scraps and Strings: Basket of little finishes

http://scrapsandstrings.blogspot.com/2015/05/basket-of-little-finishes.html

My word quilts on display. Friday, 15 May 2015. Basket of little finishes. I've been cooking up samosas lately. For an upcoming craft sale. I put together a dozen of these this week,. Using my 10 cent thrifted zippers. And a variety of fabrics. Each one of these takes two pieces of 5.5 by 8.5 inches of fabric. I stabilized the exterior fabric with fusible fleece. And put in a few quilting stitches. I also made a few rectangular zippy pouches,. To add to the others I made earlier. Thanks for stopping by!

Lazy Gal Winter Class: Just snowballing along ....

http://lazygalwinter.blogspot.com/2008/02/just-snowballing-along.html

Lazy Gal Winter Class. Friday, February 22, 2008. Just snowballing along . Well here I am a couple of weeks later and my quilt is not finished; but I do have something to show you. I have to admit . I really do like the free form fans using just a marker and no stencil. The fans were drawn randomly and some had to be touched up a bit. Sure makes life a lot easier and the effect for this frozen lake gives the illusion of snow drifts and ridges. Have a great weekend! February 23, 2008 at 9:35 AM. Love it&#...

The Quilting Edge: Construction Site

http://www.thequiltingedge.com/p/construction-site_3.html

Life is a Quilt Waiting to Happen. I've slowly started taking over the whole house. I love having so much space dedicated to my art. For many years I would just find a corner in the house. Now that my four kids are grown up and moved out, I can spread out guilt free. I'm always looking for new storage ideas or moving things around. Nothing is built in, so I can rearrange to my hearts content. I also have friends that come and sew with me on a regular basis, so I like making room for them too. It looks li...
