Scrawled Scribbles: August 2011

http://scrawledscribbles.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

At the first food stall, I have to rack my recalcitrant brain for a few seconds before managing to remember. Suddenly, one girl’s face lights up as a plate of kababs makes its appearance. A truck rumbles noisily. Down the wet road. Saturday, August 27, 2011. No country for fireflies. Thursday, August 25, 2011. Nostalgia wins again, hands down.

Scrawled Scribbles: Ice cream

http://scrawledscribbles.blogspot.com/2011/09/ice-cream.html

Wednesday, September 21, 2011. Although he sighs to himself every so often, the old man – hands folded in his lap and pen neatly clipped to a shirt pocket that betrays the outlines of a mobile phone – sits patiently enough. The boy is completely immersed in his little plastic cup of ice cream. Once in a while he surfaces to look up for approval, and the old man nods and smiles encouragingly. The langurs on the wall. Scrawled in Wax | WHERE MODERN THINGS MELT INTO OTHER MODERN THINGS

WHERE MODERN THINGS MELT INTO OTHER MODERN THINGS. The Turban Emoji and Broadchurch’s Murderer. May 29, 2015. A little while ago, when Apple introduced a new set of “more diverse” emoji, the response might be summed up best as : praise hands emoji. As someone who has often expressed that same yearning to see myself in media and other forms of normative representation, I found myself agreeing. All the same, there were outliers. In the end…. Is faith your divining rod. When faith is only relative to experience. Is belief your faith. And by what gauge do you measure its size. Is trust your peace. Or have you been broken beyond repair. Is peace a thing. That can ever be achieved. You only consume some portion. Of what they tell you.

Welcome to the portfolio of Neil Smith. When I teamed up with my brother and fellow artist Ian smith. scrawled visions

Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Ang Halawom, or the deep is my newest finished bronze piece. It is a visual commentary on meetings with majestic creatures, in this case, the jellyfish, in the depths. This piece was inspired by the curious nature of these creatures which are both fragile and breathtaking, yet at the same time, are somehow inextricably linked with danger and destruction. This was a rushed photograph. I hope I can find the time and equipment to post better images of this piece in the days to come.
