Seamstress In Training

Saturday, November 22, 2014. Simplicity 1254 Progress (and zipper clarification). I was finally able to order my fashion fabric (it's a royal purple wool from mood) so the motivation to sew up my muslin has finally arrived. Ok So the pattern originally has 3 lines along the center front seam. These are the solid purple lines on my muslin (I added the blue dashed- more on that later). From left to right we have the Center Front marking, the "fold" marking, and the zipper stitching line. My initial thought...

Seamstress In Training: Finished x2 Jalie 2921

http://seamstressintraining.blogspot.com/2013/12/finished-x2-jalie-2921.html

Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Finished x2 Jalie 2921. I was originally going to sew a cowl neck Renfrew for my 6 PAC, but Jalie 2921 kept calling to me. I had 3 yards set aside for this project, so I had lots left over to sew a little dress for Laila. I hope to take some better detailed pics soon, but I wanted to get this post up before 2014 :). Cotton/Spandex knit from Girl Charlee. Just thread and seam stabilizer. The results are so professional! I could have stuck with size T all the way through I think.

Seamstress In Training: February 2014

http://seamstressintraining.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 20, 2014. I don't typically get really excited about newly released patterns. I usually end up sewing patterns looooong after they've gained popularity. Some of my favorite patterns were voted "Best Pattern of the Year" in 2010-12. In fact, I think this is the first time I'm the first reviewer of a pattern over on PR. Simplicity 1467-the blouse, view A. Fabric, thread, interfacing and two buttons. Cotton voile from fabricmartfabrics.com. It was on sale for $3 a yard. None I had my doub...

Seamstress In Training: November 2013

http://seamstressintraining.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 4, 2013. Red Velvet Dress and Winter 6 PAC. I was pretty excited when Steph released the Red Velvet Dress pattern. I've been looking for a knit dress pattern that had neither a pencil skirt nor an a-line. I didn't know what type of skirt I wanted, but when I saw the RV pattern, I knew it would be worth a shot. Steph is hosting a sewalong starting on the November 11th and I'm hoping to join in. The fabric I have picked out (but not ordered) is this. Fushia polka dot knit. 8220;Curiosity i...

Sew Filled to the Brim: June 2014

http://sewfilled.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Sew Filled to the Brim. Friday, June 20, 2014. Burdastyle June/July issue faves. I am happy to say I have moved past my sewing funk. It seems that getting into my sewing room, cleaning everything up, re-organizing past/future projects, and seeing what other inspiring bloggers have created, has helped me tremendously to move forward! This V-neck dress is a simple silhouette with a twist- at the side seams. I love the concept, and think it will either be terrible or fabulous! This dress is simply gorgeous!

Sew Filled to the Brim: Look at my feet!

http://sewfilled.blogspot.com/2015/07/look-at-my-feet.html

Sew Filled to the Brim. Friday, July 24, 2015. Look at my feet! I wanted to take a moment to go over a few of my recent sewing-related purchases. Since I knew I wanted to jump back into sewing again, I tried to think of things that would make my life.easier. You know, some handy items that help you to cut corners.a little bit (lol). I came up with sewing machine feet! I have a few basic ones already, but I decided that I wanted to venture out and purchase a few more. Here's what I got:. I also considered...

Sew Filled to the Brim. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Thank you for your kind comments and encouragement in my last post about my Vogue wadder. I am happily working on the same shirt in a different fabric, and hoping that the second time around will be better. Look what I did (again)! Yes, I was easily persuaded by the masses of people who love Burda Style magazine, and decided to subscribe again. To sew a garment from Burda magazine for myself. First off, let me say that I LOVE this magazine! This is a n...

Sew Filled to the Brim. Monday, July 28, 2014. Fall Wardrobe Planning (cont.). I hope you had a great weekend. I am finished with my Fall 2014 Wardrobe planning! So here are the rest of my boards:. I am not even sure if I own a button down shirt. Or, if I do (I'm sure I have one somewhere), I know it is OLD. It has been at least two years since I have done buttonholes on my sewing machine, so this category will be an interesting one to undertake. I hope these will be fun to make (and wear). Sew Filled to the Brim. Friday, August 29, 2014. It's Friday, and I wanted to share with you how my M5894 muslin adjustments are coming along! Let me show you an updated photo, and then I will get into what I did. By the way, these photos are as cleaned up as I could get. I realize now that I needed a lot more light, and I am too lazy to re-do them. Next time will be better. Here goes:. For the front, the main goal from last time, was to decrease the rise. Now for the back:. Not too bad, right? Soooooo&#...

Sew Filled to the Brim: Mccalls 6844 "Following the Crowd"

http://sewfilled.blogspot.com/2014/10/mccalls-6844-following-crowd.html

Sew Filled to the Brim. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Mccalls 6844 "Following the Crowd". October is winding down, and we are still experiencing a relatively mild Fall here in Georgia. I am truly grateful, though, because I am still cranking out garments from my Fall sewing plans. Though I have made a dent in my plans, I have only scratched the surface of where I want to be. So, I sewed the ever popular Mccalls 6844, View B, Size S:. I got the idea from my black RTW cardigan. Seriously! I also took the ti...

Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Quiet round here, isn't it. I've been being distracted by modern life this year, but there will be things forthcoming. Stand by for the Blue Wool Officer's Suit, doublet and breeches tailored to the client, involving fine-wool, white-linen lining, canvas, muslin, cotton batting and many yards of white linen thread to stitch it all together. Officer's shirt to go with it. And pewter buttons. Only not on the shirt, obviously. Thursday, March 24, 2011. Shirts, common and posh!

seamstressindia | Travel, design & other musings

Travel, design and other musings. In search of the Kavaya Thuni. I first read about it in an article about the Parangi women of Fort Kochi. The Kavaya is derived from the Malaysian word Kebaya. It was the traditional dress of the Malaccan women that the Portugese brought over as wives – a sarong of sorts worn under a long flowery shirt. It was quite by accident that we started working with weavers from Kerala. My husband and I were at a riverside resort when the owner told us that there was….
