Contemplations of an ad man

Contemplations of an ad man. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. It’s hard to turn a blind eye to these domestic violence ads. Having been in the ad business for some time, I’ve become pretty discriminating. Creativity is all well and good, but no brief ever listed it as a business objective. Conversely, ads with nothing different or memorable aren’t worth writing about.  . For the same cause no less. 8221; to call attention to domestic violence. Links to this post. Monday, January 5, 2015. Links to this post.

Contemplations of an ad man: June 2014

http://seanbkirby.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Contemplations of an ad man. Sunday, June 22, 2014. Here’s one piece of common marketing advice you should ignore. If you’ve been in the marketing and ad biz for any length of time you’ve no doubt heard it numerous times. You may have even said it to your protégées. It’s one of the most common pieces of advice in all of marketing. And you should ignore it. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Contemplations of an ad man: November 2014

http://seanbkirby.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Contemplations of an ad man. Wednesday, November 5, 2014. The #1 thing holding your marketing and advertising back. I’m an adman, so you might expect this to be a rant about how clients need to take more chances and trust their agency or in-house creative teams. That’s a pretty common gripe among us creative types, after all. And truth be told, a lot of great ads do get watered down this way. But that’s not the biggest thing holding it back. Contemplations of an ad man: August 2012

http://seanbkirby.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Contemplations of an ad man. Sunday, August 19, 2012. Enthusiasm is nothing without authenticity. I heard a commercial for the upcoming Eagles vs. Patriots preseason game on the local radio sports station that caused me to roll my eyes. It wasn’t the clichéd analogy of “going to war” that caused my reaction, although that certainly didn’t help. It was more the sheer absurdity of the attempt at creating excitement. Contemplations of an ad man: If your content disappeared tomorrow, would anyone miss it?

http://seanbkirby.blogspot.com/2014/09/if-your-content-disappeared-tomorrow.html

Contemplations of an ad man. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. If your content disappeared tomorrow, would anyone miss it? Would anyone miss your content if it all disappeared? As marketers, we tend to dive headlong into new methods and trends. Content marketing is no exception. In fact, 92,000 new articles are posted online every day. And that’s just one form of content. Before you answer that question, give some objective thought to the following. Is your content about your company or your customers? I&#821...

Contemplations of an ad man: May 2012

http://seanbkirby.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Contemplations of an ad man. Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Funny Ad Fail Lessons. Ad fails are a great source of amusement. But their value isn’t just comedic. There are lessons to learn, or at least remind ourselves of. Here are just a few. The Chevy Doesn’t Go. You may have heard of this one, as it’s one of the most famous parables about marketing gone awry. The legend goes that the Chevy Nova tanked in Latin America because “No Va” in Spanish means “Doesn’t Go.”. Links to this post. Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
