If you saw our listing in the Lexington Herald-Leader events section, please be aware that the map on there isn't exactly correct- we'll have signs up, and you'll need to come to the END of Watts Ferry Rd (for those that have GPS, it's 3605 Watts Ferry Rd., Frankfort, KY)&#...

Seldom Scene Farm: Spinning my Wheel!

http://seldomscenefarm.blogspot.com/2011/01/spinning-my-wheel.html

Alpaca Breeding, Fiber and Llama Treks. Monday, January 31, 2011. I recently had a great opportunity to visit with friends in NE Ohio for a little fiber retreat ( more here. Although I have recently been more in the mood for felting, that quickly changed as I was introduced to carding art batts and spinning art yarns at the retreat. My friends Donna and Robbie have The Alpaca Fiber Studio. NO RULES, no "you're supposed to do it this way." That's my style. and if I can do it, so can YOU! Its funny that yo...

Seldom Scene Farm: Late Winter Hiking

http://seldomscenefarm.blogspot.com/2011/02/late-winter-hiking.html

Alpaca Breeding, Fiber and Llama Treks. Wednesday, February 23, 2011. We had a great llama trek. Last week with Gayle and Emily from Louisville. A lot of people don't think about hiking in the winter, but it's actually a GREAT time to be outside! The temps can be so pleasant with a few light layers to take on and off, and you can SEE so much more without foliage on the trees. There are no insects, and it feels extra nice to be outside! February 23, 2011 at 10:53 AM. February 24, 2011 at 5:11 AM. February...

Alpaca Breeding, Fiber and Llama Treks. Monday, May 16, 2011. Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival and AOBA Nationals. It's a big week around here for those that love natural fibers and handmade items, it's the 2nd annual Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festiva. To see some of the things I've been making, you can check out our other blog. Click to go there). Seldom Scene will be sharing a booth with Alpacas at Booker's Corner in the vendor tent (we're not taking animals this year), and I'll be there on Sunday.

Seldom Scene Farm: May 2011

http://seldomscenefarm.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Alpaca Breeding, Fiber and Llama Treks. Tuesday, May 24, 2011. El Nino's Accoyo Michelangelo. We had a great time and sales success at Nationals in Denver! El Nino's Accoyo Michelangelo sold for the hefty price of $120,000 (you'll be hearing more about the buyer), and Happy Hour will be heading to Chimera Ranch in Colorado! Competitors in costume class, aren't they darling? I had a great time on Sunday, and probably spent more than I made at the incredible booths of high quality fiber, buttons, pottery, ...

Betting the Farm: Shearing Day-Part 1

http://btfalpacas.blogspot.com/2010/05/shearing-day-part-1.html

A simple tale of a simple family in search of a simple life. Check out our alpacas. Saturday, May 15, 2010. This is the second year that I have been part of the ground crew. This means I have an active role with the shearing team. First, a team of folks walk the alpaca into the shearing area, place ropes on their legs, and pull the ropes tight to take them to the ground. It seems harsh, but it is really for the alpaca's safety. Now, it is time for the shearers to start shearing the blanket. It is very ph...

Betting the Farm: The Futurity

http://btfalpacas.blogspot.com/2010/04/futurity.html

A simple tale of a simple family in search of a simple life. Check out our alpacas. Monday, April 19, 2010. The sale was much better than last year. The highest selling alpaca was a Suri (yea! Owned by Wilkins Livestock. She went for $70,000. That's right my friends! You too may be able to breed a female that goes for the big bucks. I sure hope we do someday. We just bought a herdsire from Wilkins. He is beautiful and a bargain at only 5% of that price. I'll take it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Betting the Farm: In the beginning

http://btfalpacas.blogspot.com/2010/04/in-beginning.html

A simple tale of a simple family in search of a simple life. Check out our alpacas. Sunday, April 18, 2010. Present day, we are still living in the city and agisting our alpacas. Like many, we bought our house at the top of the housing market. So.we wait.not so patiently for the right time and the right farm to continue our dream. I figure an outlet for our highs and lows would be therapeutic for me and hopefully entertaining for you. Welcome! May 11, 2010 at 8:13 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Betting the Farm: Fiber-The reason we are in the business?

http://btfalpacas.blogspot.com/2010/04/fiber-reason-we-are-in-business.html

A simple tale of a simple family in search of a simple life. Check out our alpacas. Sunday, April 25, 2010. Fiber-The reason we are in the business? I have been inspired by some of the other alpaca blogs and websites I have been visiting. The picture below is felted soap from Seldom Scene Farm. It is like a built in loofa. I am also coveting her llama trekking business and farm store. Check out the blog to find out more. Has a neat structure. Is it viable? I'm not sure, but the concept is cool. I am than...
