Balloon glow | Semantically driven

http://semanticallydriven.com/2015/06/balloon_glow.html

My photo a day project, and other life stuff. Reviews & Giveaways. You are here: Home. June 9, 2015. I’d heard about this event – the Balloon Glow – a couple of years ago and went to see it but was a day late. This year, I heard about it again via a photography group I’m in and thought I’d drag the lad out to see it with me. A friend came along as well. I didn’t bother hooking up with the photography group in the end. Once I saw the amount of people I didn’t even try. All that aside, it was pretty specta...

http://semanticallydriven.com/project_365

My photo a day project, and other life stuff. Reviews & Giveaways. You are here: Home. On 22 November 2010 I started a photo a day project – Project 365. I took a photo a day for a year, then took the rest of the year off and started Project 366 – or the leap year project. On 1 January 2012 and didn’t miss a day. I’ve had lots of great feedback from friends. Who see my photos and this feedback prompted me to answer a request for visual artists for an exhibition. Choosing my photo of the day. Apparently I...

My photo a day project, and other life stuff. Reviews & Giveaways. You are here: Home. Bali – the shopping. Bali – the shopping. July 28, 2010. It’s all very well trying to do business with one person at a time but everyone wants to sell you some stuff so while you’re trying to look at one lot of things there’s someone else there asking you to look at their items. It can get very confusing and I wonder if that’s not their ploy? Laquo; 2010 might be MY year. Jen has left the building. That sign is golden&...

My photo a day project, and other life stuff. Reviews & Giveaways. You are here: Home. July 2, 2015. Happy belated birthday to my gorgeous son. His birthday coincided with a visit from his great aunt (pictured bottom right) who was in town for a couple of days. She suggested he take the day off school and when I asked him if he wanted to do this he jumped at the chance. That was before I told him what we were doing. Laquo; Balloon glow. Right intention: A realisation while walking

http://andrearankin.blogspot.com/2015/01/a-realisation-while-walking.html

Saturday, January 17, 2015. A realisation while walking. Some people have realisations in the shower (I know of two) and others have them whilst walking/running. I am in that category - when walking. Today I had a good one, worth noting. How many times do I think I will remember them, only to discover they have become hazy? A statement of intention to use one's will power to bring about a resolve). There were 5 steps in this process, the first one being:. Well, I thought, as usual I am stuck on step 1!

Friday, October 5, 2012. The music venue Jade Monkey (Twin Street, Adelaide city) has temporarily been saved! This 151 year-old building was destined to be demolished by a city developer to build a 17-storey hotel. It would be so wonderful if this building was saved for good. Thank God for retirees. Right intention: On commitment

http://andrearankin.blogspot.com/2015/01/on-commitment.html

Friday, January 23, 2015. I found this poem by Goethe. And given that I have commitment issues in a number of areas based on fear (surprise! Here it is (ignore the 'man' stuff):. Until one is committed there is always hesitancy,
. The chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness,. There is one elementary truth,. The ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:. The moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.
. A whole stream of events issues from the decision,

Right intention: February 2012

http://andrearankin.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 25, 2012. Breathe: you are alive. This small book (63 pages) by Thich Nhat Hanh 'on the full awareness of breathing' is amazing for its simplicity (in most sections) and easy-to-apply exercises. Breathing affects our mind and our mind affects our breathing. Breathing is an aspect of the body and awareness of breathing is awareness of the body. Breathing is an excellent tool for establishing calmness and evenness. Calmly abiding in the present moment, immense joy arises. As you do thing...

Semantically Loaded

Sunday, June 9, 2013. No concept better expresses the essence of reality than the Chinese yin-yang. For reality as we know it is nothing if not dichotomized: anything that exists in a way that can be specifically identified or explicitly defined manifests the dichotomy of “to be or not to be” (alive-dead, 1-0, etc.). The irony is that yin-yang is so fundamental to life that we, literate creatures that we are, are driven to construct rhetorically useful but essentially false. It seems possible, if not pro...
