Musings of a budding programmer. January 21, 2016. Prototype Design Pattern In Java. This is a less frequently used design pattern in Java. The circumstances that lead to the use of Prototype Design pattern are:. 1) A large number of objects required of the same class. 2) The object instantiation is costly. 3) There are a lot of common properties among different objects. Here is an example which meets all the above 3 criteria:. 1) A large number of tile objects required. Https:/ semanticlines.wordpre...

Musings of a budding programmer. January 20, 2016. January 21, 2016. Cloning In Java – Deep Copy, Shallow Copy, Cloneable interface etc. For learning how to implement cloning in Java, it is important to understand the difference between a deep copy and a shallow copy. Say, we have an Employee class which contains two instance variables. One is a primitive int which holds the employee id and the other one is an object reference to a Department. In order to be able to call this clone() method, the object t...

Musings of a budding programmer. August 8, 2016. August 8, 2016. Closing / Cleanup of streams using try-with-resources. The try-with-resources functionality was introduced in Java 7. Consider this piece of code which reads from a stream:. 1) { byte b = (byte) i; } } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println(Could not read! Finally { try { if (is! Null) { is.close(); } } catch (IOException e1) { System.out.println(Could not close! Just look at the clutter inside the finally block! Package com.semanti...
Stream chaining using BufferedReader | Semantic Lines

Musings of a budding programmer. August 8, 2016. August 8, 2016. Stream chaining using BufferedReader. A really good thing about using IO streams in java is that they can be chained. Let us look at the following example:. Null) { System.out.println(line); } } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println("Could not read! Quot;); } } }. Look at the statement inside the try paranthesis. We are initializing a BufferedReader there. But inside the constructor, we are passing yet another stream! It helps buffer d...

Regular expressions is a huge topic on it own and cannot be covered in a single article. The following just serves as a quick start:. Say, we have a sentence:. 8220;Ancy, you are now under my protection. My phone number is 2255.”. We now need to extract the phone number alone from the above sentence:. But why do we have two backslashes before d – d? The succeeding ‘*’...Note that...

Spaghetti code never sounded so good. Saturday, January 26, 2013. There's a Bug in My Test! Since becoming sold on TDD a while ago, I've noticed something bothersome. It's hard to write correct automated unit tests! Unit test code is just as likely as any other program to contain bugs, logic errors, and defects. Code that passes the tests then is still likely to have bugs. Damn, all that work for nothing! So I'm sticking with TDD. Friday, August 13, 2010. Interview With Steve Vinoski. Friday, May 21, 2010.
