A Costume Chronicle of the Accuracy-Obsessed
Sew Historical: April 2011
http://sew-historical.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 25, 2011. And thank you for reading this, if indeed you are. I am Abby and I am a professional costumer. This blog serves the purpose of chronicling my costuming and designing adventures. About a year ago, I subscribed to the popular website patternreview.com. And began to review patterns I had sewn. Sharing my experiences and photos got me hooked, but I wanted to share more of my costume construction process than Pattern Review is prepared to handle, so here we are. Saturday, April 23, 2011.
Sew Historical: February 2012
http://sew-historical.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 19, 2012. So Where Was I? Oh, yeah, RenFest. Here is pretty much how it went down: I used the straight pattern of Simplicity 2788. For the baby costume, using white cotton muslin for the body suit and headpiece, black velveteen for the outside ears, cuffs, and booties, and a peach satin for the inside of the ears. For the Bo Peep costume, I really didn't have to do much of a "Franken-pattern." I was able to use most of Simplicity 5582. I didn't use a petticoat, though I wish that I had&#...

Sew Historical: King's Robe
http://sew-historical.blogspot.com/2012/04/kings-robe.html
Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Finished the King's Robe and French Hood (in a separate post). finally. I feel like I've been neglecting my family and friends for months. I wasn't consumed with sewing the entire time, though. There was a lot of time spent waiting and communicating via email and then I was able to finally get started in early March. I felt like it needed just a little jazzing up. I also ran into some problems with the size of the pattern pieces vs. my fabric. Cut sleeve pattern into 2 pieces.

The Brewers: Keeping Pace with a Cheetah
http://blogwiththebrewers.blogspot.com/2014/06/keeping-pace-with-cheetah.html
Monday, June 16, 2014. Keeping Pace with a Cheetah. I know I say this with every post, but where does the time go? My babies are growing up so quickly and I can't seem to keep up! Austin turned twelve on May 7th. TWELVE! I still have visions of him sitting at our dinner table at the ripe age of two. He had a Sponge Bob oven mitt on his hand and in his sweet little boy voice he says, "I'm gonna get you" as he attacks Mark's hand with the oven mitt! My heart is tickled by this face! A favorite memory from ...

Monday, December 9, 2013. You're probably wondering how our trip to Breckenridge ended. It ended well! Thursday we celebrated Thanksgiving. We woke up early and began cooking. We watched football and movies in between. We had a nice spread to choose from! Georgiet even made lumpia! We played games late into the evening and shared lots of laughs together. Later in the day, Mark, the kids, Aaron, Georgiet, Zay and Bastian played in the snow some more! They had another, more serious, snowball fight! At our ...

The Brewers: February 2012
http://blogwiththebrewers.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 23, 2012. Two months is WAY too long to go without blogging. After all, I am keeping this blog for a journal for the kids when they are older. I may even try to be a cool mom and have it printed out one day! So, lots has happened since Christmas. New Year's came and went. On New Year's day Mark and I took the kids to the Houston Children's Museum where they did a "family style" count down at noon instead of midnight. I feel like I came home with a renewed love for children's ministry!

Thursday, November 28, 2013. Breckenridge, Colorado Family Vacation Day 4. I woke up super early on day four. My sister texted me about our dogs (she's dog sitting). One little beep from my phone and I'm up. Once I'm up, I'm up! So, Bastian and I hung out until everyone else woke up. Once the house was awake, the kids bundled up and went to play in the snow. For breakfast we planned to hit up the crepe stand again because of it's yummy goodness! An ice castle the town is in the process of building. Our g...

Monday, March 24, 2014. Baseball. Austin plays baseball, and I LOVE watching that boy play! In the fall he played for the Bulls through Baseball USA. Austin was re-evaluated in January and was again invited back to play. Before the evaluations, we found out that his team would "officially" be sponsored by Marucci. We were very excited, hoping it would be the change that fixed our BUSA problems! After that, we were left back in square one! A team that prays together. Checking out their competition. I'm a ...

Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Heartbeat by Remedy Drive. This is a draught. The one thing life requires. Somewhere I lost the fire. Where has it gone. Can anybody turn this beat back on. My heart is fast asleep. Dreaming it could bleed. For something that´s real. God I’m getting tired of the way I feel. When I would rather be alive. I want to wake up. I want to restart. Put the drumbeat back in my heart. I need to be revived. Bring me back to life. Coming on slow head to toe. The pulse is back again. Even thoug...

Sew Hope Needles
Sew Hope Needles On! October 26, 2014. Last time I wrote the roses were just blooming and now coolness of fall appears at the edges of the day. In fact, our almond tree is a little confused and had a single almond blossom amidst the thinning leaves. Yesterday, in an attempt to feel some control, I pulled out a project I started two years ago. This is Letty’s Bag by Robin Gallagher at Robin Quilts, etc. The first one I completed and gave away as a diaper bag. Letty’s Bag completed. May 17, 2014. The weath...

Sew I Do
Dressmaker scissors are flat, with the handles off to an angle. This keeps your fabric as flat as possible so you get an accurate cut. Precision matters when it comes to fit. Sharp matters too, as it makes the job easier. Here are my favorite dressmaker scissors. The orange handle ones on the top right are Fiskars. They are relatively inexpensive but are easy to resharpen with the Fiskars sharpening tool. I do not want someone to use these for anything else, but I can resharpen if they do. Lutterloh Syst...
