Lowber (Marchand Mine) Site. New Features at Lowber. Earlier this year township workings built a pull off near where the cleaned water exits toward they Youghiogheny at Lowber AWD site. SCWA supplied a set of concrete steps that they installed. Now visiters can park both near the outflow from the Marchand mine and at the other end where clean water comes out. The steps let them easily climb out and view the wetlands seeing the interpretive signs and crossing the bridge over the stream.

To help clean up our local waterways the Association. Monitors water quality and identifies sources of pollution in the watershed. Partners with government agencies and other organizations to sponsor, develop, and maintain AMD treatment programs. Works with local industries to monitor discharge facilities. Participates in developing uses for AMD iron oxide as it is removed from our waterways. Brinkerton Mine Discharge Site. Wilson Run Discharge Site. Jacks Run at Lynch Field Greensburg.

Preserving Our Local History. The Sewickley Creek watershed is located entirely within the political boundaries of Westmoreland County. In the 1780's to the early 1800's, this area was heavily lumbered. The lumbering made it conducive for charcoal manufacture for the charcoal iron furnaces and thus launching the iron and steel industry ( Van Atta 2002). The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association takes this to heart. Members are kept up to date with newsletters, workshops and seminars, dinners, and picnics. Partnerships with other organizations for investigative studies and environmental projects offers the Association and the watershed citizens new insight into the environment. Students have become active participants in many of the Association projects , making them aware of real issues within their communities. Annual Picnics and Dinner.
