The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association is involved in a variety of projects which promote and support local recreational opportunities. Abandoned rail lines at sites. The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association has purchased abandoned rail lines passing through their various remediation sites. It is hoped that educational trails will become an integral part of these facilities, allowing for walking , jogging, and educational awareness. The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association takes this to heart. Members are kept up to date with newsletters, workshops and seminars, dinners, and picnics. Partnerships with other organizations for investigative studies and environmental projects offers the Association and the watershed citizens new insight into the environment. Lowber (Marchand Mine) Site. New Features at Lowber. Earlier this year township workings built a pull off near where the cleaned water exits toward they Youghiogheny at Lowber AWD site. SCWA supplied a set of concrete steps that they installed. Now visiters can park both near the outflow from the Marchand mine and at the other end where clean water comes out. The steps let them easily climb out and view the wetlands seeing the interpretive signs and crossing the bridge over the stream.

In other related Earth Day events, volunteers cleaned up 42 tires, a sofa, electronics and 40 bags of litter along Shinsky Road in Unity Township. Local residents have adopted this heavily littered roadway through Westmoreland Cleanways, and with the help of Township Supervisors, clean it regularly.
