舞狮，有南北之分。据前人记载，于唐代已问世，称为狮子舞。当时只限于宫中表演，专供皇亲贵族寻欢作乐，有研究者认为，唐狮子舞应与今时北狮类型相近。南狮，多认为起源于岭南，除纯表演性质外，又有唯其独有的菜青活动。传至新加坡后，更上一层楼，发展到与粤剧（广东大戏）配合，演出当时颇吸引人的狮剧。然因社会及时代的变迁，而无法发扬光大，为狮艺界一憾事。 于1920年，李怡生在新加坡发起和组织"怡怡堂瑞狮团"，并亲自任教。南狮界最负盛名，有狮王之称，冯庚长公的狮艺，就是这样传到新加坡的。怡怡堂每逢清明，重阳二节，都到"广惠肇碧山亭，居新三属粤人总坟"，祭祀本邑先贤，逢喜庆事，都舞狮去庆贺。这是在新加坡出现的第一头醒狮，令群众感到新鲜、惊奇和仰慕。 依与吕新尧师傅同代的鹤山会馆前辈口述，目前鹤山狮团舞狮时或击鼓演奏时所打之鼓点，乃由吕师傅所改进革新。鼓声洪亮清晰，极能激发喜庆欢乐气氛，更能点缀出狮艺中狮子的威猛雄姿。此鼓点已为东南亚各舞狮团体所普遍接纳使用。又以前辈们口述资料为依据，现今，鹤山会馆...当时，拜师学艺者众多，皆爱好狮艺和武术的青年，有李锡泉、何启成&...1949年为庆祝"新加坡鹤山同乡会"（...

Jow Gar (Zhou Jia) Martial Art. Jow Gar is a form of southern martial arts created by its founder Master Zhou Long (周龙) which is passed down from one generation after another. Its moves are practical in real combat with its swift, ferocious and flexible punches and kicks, which also confers it the name “southern fist and northern kick” (南拳北腿). The sequences are continuous, consist of few repetitions and executed swiftly. This form of self-defence is ideal in training one’s agility and stamina.
