This is the unbelievable wonderful Hanging Monastery (Xuánkōngsì) at Hunyuan, which “hangs” at the sacred Mount Heng, at five kilometers west of the town Hunyuan, 65 kilometers from Datong. Shanxi, Datong, Yungang. Monday, February 19, 2007. Welcome at Yungang, Shanxi. Beautiful Buddhist paintings on the walls of the grottoes. The wonderful Yungang Grottoes, which are at the World Heritage List of Unesco, are a collection of shallow caves. Within these grottoes, there are beautiful paintings on the walls and the ceilings, and over 50,000 carved images and statues of Buddhas and Boddhisatvas, ranging from 4 centimeters to 7 meters tall. Most of these icons are around 1000 years old.
