An American Girl in Melbourne. Monday, December 26, 2011. Heaven on a plate. Sunday, December 25, 2011. Christmas in Australia is pretty similar to Christmas in other Anglo-cultures around the world. There are church services, family get-togethers, Santa, presents (also called "prezzies" in Aus-speak), etc. The major differences are the weather and season. Personally, I enjoy Christmas during the summer. Long days, hot weather, what is not to love? It's times like these that it is rough to be an expat.

Grays in the Shade. Northerners head south…. As I mentioned in a previous post, after our sister and brother-in-law left we had another set of fun visitors in for a week from Iowa. Lucky for us they had been reading about the Mayan ruins at Lamanai. We caught the first water taxi at 7 AM and traveled about an hour by car from Belize City to the New River. Lamanai means “submerged crocodile”. It was a Mayan City that was continuously occupied for over 3000 years. As I posted here. New River in the Rain.
