Short and Punchy

Sunday, March 28, 2010. On the Topic of White. This morning I realized I have not addressed my hair for months. I am sporting a mop. It falls here and there and takes on a different look daily. But today I realized I might be looking a bit too moppy. When I talk to people, I notice their eyes drift upwards. Having white hair marks you. It labels you as someone who you are and at the same time, as someone who you are not. There is no white hair among the women I work with. Not a strand. He thought I was 28.

Short and Punchy: Lesson From A Car Break-In

http://shortandpunchy.blogspot.com/2010/03/lesson-from-car-break-in.html

Wednesday, March 17, 2010. Lesson From A Car Break-In. My car just got broken into, but it could have been worse. I parked my car in the "secure" fenced and locked lot at work and was in the building from 4:30 to 5:20 pm and ‘they’ got my car. Smash and grab. Window gone. Left all my working files, fortunately. This is what they got:. Very old cell phone that was a cast off from T and needed to be replaced- now canceled so you can't call me there. My very new work phone- so, not my worry. Miscellaneous t...

Short and Punchy: Long, Slow Training Day: The Duke City Marathon

http://shortandpunchy.blogspot.com/2009/10/long-slow-training-day-duke-city.html

Sunday, October 18, 2009. Long, Slow Training Day: The Duke City Marathon. Today I did my first marathon. T told me to go slow. He signed us up by telling me that this was to be a training day. No racing, just training pace. That was easy to do. For a number of reasons, I haven't slept well in days. Not only was I tired, but I woke up sore. So I groaned my way out of bed, telling myself that Time marches on and soon the day would be over. I found it funny that at 6:00 am, as one of the first people to ar...

Short and Punchy: September 2009

http://shortandpunchy.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 27, 2009. That's what T calls it. I'd never heard the term before, but it's when you don't bring up the rear- and you're certainly not up at the front. It sounds anonymous and generic. No recognition of the effort it takes to finish and no indication of place- just a space occupying reference, which is how I felt after finishing the race today. Pack fill. Of course, I should know better by now. I'm not, and never have been, an athlete on the sharp end. Meaning, I don't lead. Distance), ...

Short and Punchy: Just a Thought

http://shortandpunchy.blogspot.com/2009/10/giving-credit-where-credit-is-due.html

Sunday, October 4, 2009. Some years back I owned a tiny Toyota Corolla station wagon. Cute as a button. The engine came from a Corolla sedan that had been rear ended by a truck- engine good, rear trunk bad- and I found the body from the comment of a passing stranger who said his neighbor had a shell of the same kind of car sitting in storage in his garage - body only, no engine, perfect. As an aside, and just in case your wondering, the sedan was $35, and the station wagon body cost $90. I was young and ...

Short and Punchy: August 2009

http://shortandpunchy.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 30, 2009. Magicians, Movies, and Mangoes. Hurricane Felicia was on it's way, downgrading all the time, and scheduled to hit O'ahu. As a tropical depression on Tuesday- so on Monday night when Mark and I went out for a movie, we had the entire theatre to ourselves. When the lights go down, the usher tells everyone to please recline their seats- it's mandatory. You can bring in food and drink. Here's Mark, getting. Comfortable- with his mangoes. Those mangoes were ' ono. Well, sort of. I thi...

Bone's Blog: The things we do for fashion

http://nmoutlaws.blogspot.com/2010/03/things-we-do-for-fashion.html

Monday, March 15, 2010. The things we do for fashion. Green dress run –the things we do for fashion:. Okay, I have to admit that I’ve been looking forward to the return of the Albuquerque Road runners Green dress run since the Outlaws were invited back in January, it sounded like a lot of fun. It’s been a long time since I’ve run with the Roadrunners. And I forgot how friendly and supportive they are, plus they put on a great handicap series. Many thanks for inviting us to run! The other girl that I was ...

Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Beach to Battleship race report. About a year ago the NM Outlaws were casting about for an Ironman race to compete in for our club race. B2B won out over some very tough competition – it won mainly because of the location, time of year (weather ) and cost. North Carolina in early November is incredible! Special thanks to Debi, Margaret, Cory, Lorna, and Loraine, you guys had us organized, transported, and fully supported! A few last minute hugs, good lucks and we were off!

Monday, October 19, 2009. Palo Duro Trail 50k. Palo Duro 50k Trial run,. Brian first talked to me about the Palo Duro 50k right after the Socorro Chile Harvest Triathlon. I must have been high on the endorphins from having a good race and started actually thinking it was a good idea. After all, the race was several months away and I would be in “good shape” after running the Colorado Relay and all the training getting ready for the Beach to Battleship Ironman. Yeah, it sounded like fun…. The energy is lo...

Thursday, August 26, 2010. Crewing and Pacing at Leaville 100. Last year when my friend, Margaret. Said she put her name on the napkin to run the Leadville 100 mile race I immediately asked her if I could crew or pace her. As an endurance junkie I have done some crazy things but never have I considered doing a 100 mile run, and a hard 100 mile run to boot. So, it sounded like it was going to be a lot of fun. During the course of the year I found out another friend, Brian. To be continued. .

Bone's Blog: April 2009

http://nmoutlaws.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 3, 2009. I’ve been doing the same yoga for a couple of years now and decided it was time for a change. Since I had extra time on Thursday night I decided to do a hot Vinyasa yoga class. Normally I do the Bikrams yoga once or twice per week and while it’s certainty hot and I get dehydrated it’s very doable. The Vinyasa class kicked my butt! Links to this post. http://nmoutlaws.blogspot.com/2010/04/ironman-st-george.html

Monday, April 12, 2010. Ironman St George is coming up fast, only about 18 days left! Training for this IM has been pretty tough. The weather hasn’t cooperated and my mental state just hasn’t put in the right frame of mind to train hard. But now that the tough training is done I’m getting excited for the race, go figure. This IM I tried something a little different;. Dread Pirate talked me into taking the spin class from hell, taught by Satan himself, not some underling demon, nope, the big wig. I’...

Monday, November 2, 2009. Getting ready for B2B. It’s been a fun few months getting ready for the Beach to Battleship iron distance race and I’m about as ready for it as I can be. I feel like I’m in pretty good shape, but my low swim yardage makes me nervous. This is the first year I haven’t consistently been swimming masters, though I have been swimming a couple of times per week, It’s just not the same without someone on deck keeping you honest. Big thanks to you guys, you rock! Subscribe To Bones Blog.

Monday, November 3, 2008. Now that the brunt of the training has passed I thought I would post a little blurb on my bike and the configuration I’ve chosen for IMAZ. I’ve spend the last few years getting this bike just the way I want it. The bike was originally purchased for IMFL in ’04 but that race just never happened. Life sometimes gets in the way of the best laid plans. This will be IM number three for the bike, that is assuming I finish! From the bottom up:. Wheel set: 2006 Zip 404, 650 Clinchers&#4...
