SkyOut: October 2014
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Friday, October 31, 2014. A Day at the Beach with Tom and Tom. I drove to Cape Cod hoping for a soaring flight in my new paraglider. However the wind was too strong for a rookie like me. Luckily, I brought along a hang glider! I setup, launched, and bounced around the dunes for about an hour. I patched together a short video of our flights, including a couple shots Tom got of seals swimming along the shore. Flights: 1, Duration: 0:60. Posted by Tom Lanning. Links to this post.

SkyOut: August 2014
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Sunday, August 24, 2014. I took a break from paragliding lessons and made the short trip to Tanner-Hiller. Airport and Hang Glide New England. A fun group showed up to soak-in the last days of summer. The early birds had satisfying flights but the later group was having trouble staying airborne in spite of the great looking sky. I followed Rhett in the green tug down the runway and into the air. It was soon time to release and find my own climb. Rhett waited, ready to go, whil...

SkyOut: March 2015
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Since the forecast called for increasing westerly winds and a relatively strong sea breeze by late afternoon, I saddled up for a noon-time launch from QuestAir. Cumulus moved overhead, but were low and widely spaced. Jim Praul towed me to cloud base at 2300 feet (700m). Um, now what should I do? I bounced between a couple clouds until the sky blued-out upwind of the field. I could have taken off downwind, but was waiting to fly with other pilots. I con...

SkyOut: April 2015
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Friday, April 24, 2015. Finally, a day without thunderstorms in the forecast! I was the first to tow again and Paul dropped me into a weak climb upwind of the field at Wallaby Ranch. The inconsistent climb continued to entice me to stay, even as I drifted past the field were I was joined by another pilot. We continued climbing and drifting up our glide slope back to the field. (We would arrive at the field with about 800 feet (240 m) even as we got further away.). We all lande...

SkyOut: Afternoon break
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2015/07/afternoon-break.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Saturday, July 11, 2015. I'm slowly progressing towards my novice paragliding rating at Morningside Flight Park. Mid-day is too turbulent for newbies like me so I setup my hang glider for an afternoon break after flying the paraglider on the hill in the morning. I found a good line of lift just south of Claremont. I climbed to the southeast and would fly upwind to the northwest and snag another. Jon climbing lower left, Jake approaching from Ascutney. Here is the video,. I had...

SkyOut: Pull the Plug
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2015/05/pull-plug.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Wednesday, May 06, 2015. Davis, Richard, and I originally planned to fly to Arcadia. However, as the day progressed we changed the task to Fantasy of Flight and back. I was the first off and Mark dropped me into a strong climb that I rode to base. Malcolm, Richard, and Davis weren't so lucky and had to piece together several weaker climbs to get up. I waited around so we could leave together. No pictures today since I am preparing for the upcoming competition.). Earth turns an...

SkyOut: May 2014
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Sunday, May 25, 2014. The forecast was wet and uninspiring. I had written-off flying for the holiday weekend, but it would be nice to see friends like Brian Bordeaux, Dean Funk, Kari Castle, and others that rarely visit Morningside. I was concerned the sunshine might brew up more storms but as the afternoon wore on it became apparent that the wet ground was retarding thermal development. Although clouds developed, they were wispy, ragged, and malformed. Posted by Tom Lanning.

SkyOut: December 2014
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Friday, December 05, 2014. Yet another day when the conditions were not good for rookie paragliding at Wellfleet on Cape Cod. It was marginally soarable for hang gliders so I gave it a go with my hang glider (Falcon). I was having a good time until I made risky move during a lull. In just a few minutes I was back on the ground watching Max and Vitaly flying overhead. Sigh. Flights: 1, Duration: 0:45. Posted by Tom Lanning. Links to this post. Location: Wellfleet, MA, USA.

SkyOut: July 2014
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Sunday, July 20, 2014. I queued behind Steve on launch and then waited as Steve and another pilot barely kept afloat in front. As Steve started climbing I ran into the air. A few other paraglider pilots quickly launched and we climbed about a 1000 feet (300m) over in smooth weak thermals. I got lazy and found myself tangled again in the growing fur-ball in front of launch before climbing up and away again into the open sky. The smarter pilots waited for all the novice pilots t...

SkyOut: March 2014
http://skyout.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Adventures in Hang Gliding. Monday, March 31, 2014. As flying fate dictates, the weather turned on Monday once most pilots left after the Wills Wings. Demo Days at Wallaby Ranch. The day started with crystal blue skies but started filling with scattered cirrus around noon. We were slow to get going, but after looking at the visible satellite image I decided to launch instead of waiting for the day to get worse. I spent the afternoon flying with friends . Here is a short video from the flight. Malcolm and...
