Understanding What You Read | Learning to Teach
https://cbnickerson.wordpress.com/2014/02/02/understanding-what-you-read/comment-page-1
Understanding What You Read. No one really does that any more. I believe the point the authors are making is that students need to know how to research for information that is outside of what they can define by their own knowledge or context clues, but does it have to be a dictionary? Aren’t newer, and more tech derived, research processes more reflective of how students will really research information in their lives outside of school? Final Reflection | Learning to Teach
https://cbnickerson.wordpress.com/2014/03/16/final-reflection
As this quarter progressed, I was able to look deeper into my practice a teacher, using specific student examples and experiences from my classroom. As a blogger in past quarters I didn’t have the opportunity or the context to relate what I was learning in my method course work with real examples. This quarter has given me more context and more time with real students as I develop my pedagogy. How does it work? Leading Reading Groups – Inferences. One thought on “ Final Reflection. Student Statistics? | Learning to Teach
https://cbnickerson.wordpress.com/2014/02/09/student-statistics
I had the opportunity to sit in on a series of data planning sessions at my main placement in the last month. All teachers and administration are looking at reading levels across grade levels, writing goals for growth around those reading levels, and thinking about which students will make it to grade level by the end of the year and which will not. For example, in our 6. Is it worse to have high expectations that aren’t met, than low expectations you know for sure you can meet? Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
Leading Reading Groups – Inferences | Learning to Teach

Leading Reading Groups – Inferences. I recently had the opportunity to write and teach three sequenced lesson plans around reading for a small group. The learning objective for these lessons was inferring: that many times an author won’t give us every detail or understanding in plain text. It is our job as good readers to infer. Meaning based on cues in the text. What inferences can we make about these changes in her thinking? Working with Guided Assessment. Final Reflection ». April 18, 2014 at 6:02 pm.

Monthly Archives: August 2013. Final Food Blog Reflection. My biggest problem and area that needed some improvement was portion size. I just love food so much! Regardless of my love for food, eating larger than necessary portion sizes isn’t good for you, even when it’s healthy food. Applying physical education as an interdisciplinary tactic is an excellent and necessary tool to use in planning instruction. The micro-teaching instructions are under way, and it is really exciting to watch my colleagues pra...

I had the opportunity to participate in a Project learning Tree (PLT) seminar a few weeks ago. I already knew that incorporating environmental education into my classroom was something I really value, but interacting with PLT gave me great supports and resources to make that incorporation easier and more available. Exploring the PLT websites (plt.org) after the seminar I found some facts that were interesting, if not depressing:. He links the lack of nature in todays generation he calls it nature-deficit...

Here’s what I learned from this:. 1) I hated getting caught. 2) I resented authority figures. 3) It was the punisher’s fault I was in trouble. It worked, they couldn’t back to their seats fast enough, I won. But then why do I feel like I failed? My students should hear my directions and exclaim, Absolutely our fearless leader!
