Art doesn't impinge on my professional life in any form, I haven't had any formal art education since I was 13 - and even then all I recall is sticking bits of pasta to a small card and making a coiled clay pot. Living with Mr. Fleas. Art class : week 5.

Ian russell's Artwork blog. Thursday, October 19, 2006. Art class: week 4. Charcoal on paper (550x400). Week 4 at class comprised a choice of still life tonal rendering in either pencil, ink and brush or charcoal. still finding my feet yet not wanting to play too safe with pencil, I opted for the forgiving charcoal. Very enjoyable, the hardest part was standing at the easel - something totally new to me. Posted by ian russell. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Living with Mr. Fleas. Art class : week 5.

http://www.socksgetholes.blogspot.com/2006/10/art-class-week-3-homework_16.html

Ian russell's Artwork blog. Monday, October 16, 2006. Art class: week 3 homework. At the eleventh hour before class, I thought I'd better do some more homework to keep on side of teacher. the previous drawing wasn't 'tonal' enough so i attempted a charcoal sketched portrait from a photograph (I just couldn't face another still life just yet! It was a bit rushed and I cocked up the composition, hence the missing left eye which was cropped from the photo and should have been here - artistic licence!

http://www.socksgetholes.blogspot.com/2006/10/art-class-week-3-homework.html

Ian russell's Artwork blog. Sunday, October 15, 2006. Art class: week 3 homework. Bowl of lemons, candle and tin bus. B4 pencil (A4 sketchbook). We were asked to practice some tonal drawings. I'd totally missed doing week 2 homework and in danger of missing week 3. my heart wasn't really in another still life so this isn't a good example of a tonal drawing. Posted by ian russell. Ian russell's Artwork blog. Monday, October 02, 2006. Art class : week 2. Nothing of interest to show for week 2 as I wagged off homework and in class we just explored different styles of line drawing. Was introduced to Ben Nicholson. 1894 - 1982) which was a surprise as I recognised a little of his style in mine though I can't think I've ever come across him before, being the numpty that I am. poetsday: one deep breath

http://helpmewriteapoem.blogspot.com/2006/10/one-deep-breath_31.html

Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Watching them when I'm not there. Faith, trust, hope and love. This week's prompt made me think I'm more of an observational guy and I could appreciate the unseen more. I had a bit of difficulty with 'observing' the unseen without being too literal. Posted by Ian russell at 12:16 AM. Beautiful poem, Ian. Tuesday, 31 October, 2006. I know what you mean. I too have similar problems. Wednesday, 01 November, 2006. Friday, 17 November, 2006. For me, poetry is still a bit of a mystery.

Wednesday, November 29, 2006. A wise man I knew sat to offer advice. He told me, whenever you attempt anything. Try to be the best, and if you can't. Be the best, then be. There are a lot of people in this old world. You can bet if you've thought of it. Then someone else has too! Think twice about everything you do. But don't just do nothing. That just won't do at all! If you can't be the best - or. Just be yourself, be someone at least. And on that point he rose. And leaving, walked smack into a post.

Friday, October 20, 2006. Or fewer than seventeen. Posted by Ian russell at 1:13 AM. For me, poetry is still a bit of a mystery. This began as a serious personal exercise to understand and appreciate poetry, and to endeavour to compose at least one piece of good verse. It still is, although to a lesser extent. moving on, this is now really a place to post my thoughts and observations in verse form. I have developed a greater fondness for the haiku form of expression, more now than merely a syllable puzzle.

Monday, October 23, 2006. When i glance in the mirror. Caught in the passing headlights. As the night claims them. Reading the link on one deep breath for Kristin Boryca. S study on the four aesthetic terms in haiku - sabi, wabi, yugen and aware, I wondered if they could relate to the four elements - fire, air (wind), water, earth. (whatever they might mean! I came up with;. Sabi - solitude - air (or wind). Wabi - stability - earth. Yugen - mystery - fire. Aware - impermanence - water. Kinda creepy, huh?

Monday, November 13, 2006. A Sister for Ian. When I was seven, Mum brought home a sister. To play with after school, she wasn’t. Even one yet; really small, so if I sat. Still and was good I could hold her gently. And she smelled like milk and biscuits. If I behaved down the shops, I could push her. In the pram home, she liked to rock, the gurgles. Stopped when she sleeps, sometimes a whole day! Sometimes I was allowed to push her. Round the garden in the summer while. Posted by Ian russell at 6:30 AM.

Tuesday, October 24, 2006. The minutiae of Life. The two-minute poem;. The draft of a suicide note lay. Amongst the aftermath of breakfast. A half-consumed body of man. The sacrificial lamb hanging. Ominous from the beam. The coffee has become quite cold now. Collecting my belongings I turn. Taking one last look while. Heading for the door. Right to the top of the tree. No one need stand on the tips of their toes. To see over the intellect of tony mcgee. While tony would prove one and one made three.
