March 26, 2015 at 3:23 pm ( musings. I want to post how sad I am. And that I cry. I would like to talk about the pain that closes off my throat. But instead I write about the weather. It’s sunny today! Sigh, rain again. Or maybe something about the fog. Never mentioning the fog in my brain. Or the rain of tears. That tempers the raging fire. My maddness has become. I have become adept. Careful that no one should see. The crazy hanging out of me. Like the tatty lace hem of a none too clean slip. Sorry, yo...

Santa Lives In Arkansas. November 17, 2014 at 1:56 pm ( fact. Work was surprisingly busy. I was a cocktail waitress. You’d think people would go home rather than be there on Christmas eve. Fortunately for me the holiday spirit made them slightly more generous than usual. Tips were pretty good. I was going to be able to buy the kids each a cheap toy maybe, plus candy canes, and still get new stockings! Perhaps I should take them to the Children’s Home and just give up. They certainly deserved be...Novembe...

It’ll do →. Your mother wears army boots. January 7, 2015. That basketball announcer guy’s voice). As you may already know, I can do a lot of hard things by putting a “stop date” to them. Thirty days of this, sixty days of that. A poem a day, no bread for a month, etc., etc. A friend of mine challenged me to do a nine week exercise program with her. She’s already done it once and loves it so much she’s doing it again. Sold! This season’s stop date challenge is a physical challenge! Lord willing, I’...

Pin cushions (Turning 50 Re-vamp Series). The Bank Calls →. Nine Week Workout Completed! Here’s the Dirty Lowdown…. March 2, 2015. I started the New Year tired. And flabby. Not so much flabby-overweight, but flabby-weak. No muscles to speak of. General weak blobbiness. Truth is, I’ve never had much muscle to begin with. And now it shows. And my hips… they’re… growing. So in this year of turning 50, I am going use my fatigue to my own benefit. I could do that. This type of program is great for people who ...

A face for hats. Newer posts →. I see him in you sometimes. He lives in yours eyes,. Behind your brow,. And in the bridge of your nose where it crinkles when you grin. He comes with joy. I’m not one to complain about the weather. Why would I? What difference would it make? It’s like when you ask someoneusually an older someone…and often a male someonehow he’s doing. Sometimes he’ll answer, Can’t complain. , and a voice inside my head adds, And it wouldn’t do any good if you did. My flowers are drowning.

Nine Week Workout Completed! Here’s the Dirty Lowdown… →. Pin cushions (Turning 50 Re-vamp Series). February 25, 2015. I found the words “trust the process” coming out of my mouth for the first time yesterday. I was at physical therapy when I said it. I heard the therapy aid chuckle so I wondered if I had said something stupid. Was that one of the phrases that people make fun of nowadays, and as an older person I was (once again) clueless? Maybe People make fun of everything eventually. I did say no than...
Unintended Consequences « a face for hats

A face for hats. I don’t make resolutions. A resolution is a promise in a business suit and, as the saying goes; promises are made to be broken. I do, however, set intentions. It’s not a formal thing. I don’t write anything down, light candles, chant, or tell people. My intentions usually arise from something I feel strongly about, or some kind of character issue I want to change. That’s right Bang Bang . It showed in my professionally manicured nails, in my new haircut, and in my face. My step was q...

A face for hats. But I didn’t. I didn’t make that trip. Truth be told, the idea never became much more than thatsomething I thought about now and thena musing atop a pile of reverie in a corner of my brain that never gets enough light to grow anything. No Cliff’s Notes for this girl! I don’t know if it’s because of, or in spite of, the fact that I actually had to read those torture devices of semi-modern literature, but I remember quite a lot about all three of those books. If only I Know Why The Cag...

A face for hats. Mr Lucky died. I found out he died the same way I learned he was alive, in a post on Facebook between a political rant and a photo of last night’s dinner. Just yesterday I saw a photo of him and his adopted brother, Mr. Max. They were sleeping the way small animals and children do, in a mix of limbs forming a pile of sweetness. I’m not a cat person, but I’ve lived with cats. As a kid, we always had cats. My mother loved cats. Her favorite was named Cleo. She called her Cl...Many years ag...

Sunday, August 31, 2014. Suddenly, Spain's government has decided that its priority for the coming months is what it describes as ' democratic regeneration. Is merely the cynical touch the PP seems to feel is needed to decorate all of their measures. If that's still not cynical enough for you they also claim the change will help to avoid corruption. They were much more comfortable with the ritual ' y tú má. S' sessions that the increasingly rare parliamentary debates in Spain consist of. Before we could ...

South of the Border (no longer!)
Saturday, July 18, 2015. Having children brought extra feelings out in me about being adopted, it came home to me just how much a person gives up when they give a child to someone else. It was a positive and love-filled realization. I received the test, and it sat on my dresser for a month. I finally completed it in April and sent it in the mail. I kept it in the back of my mind. It seems a little more normal than putting a poster on Facebook asking if anyone adopted out a child on my birthday. :-).
