Journal Prompt: The Life of a Sped Teacher

Friday, October 1, 2010. When too much is enough. Nothing boils my blood faster than being across the meeting table from a woman who sits there with a perpetual frown. The lines are etched in her face. She has perfected the scowl. She flicks papers in an important way and clutches the pen she is holding, as though about to take note of something that irritates her. Her eyes are narrow, suspicious. She seems offended. I hope I never become her. Did she start out this way? He doesn't fit in, he's a nuisanc...

Journal Prompt: The Life of a Sped Teacher: September 2010

http://www.spedteacherjournal.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 5, 2010. New year, new adventures. Beth says that I will quickly make the word "adventure" synonymous with something akin to "catastrophe" but I can't help it. Life is an adventure, and the life of a Sped teacher is just too action-packed to be called anything else! I sent 8 of my cherubs to the high school last year, so my program is pretty depleted. Please, don't share this with the Powers That Be, but there are only 13 kids on my caseload at the moment! Other highlights- more student...

http://www.spedteacherjournal.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 2, 2009. You know, so many people get instantly angry, hurt, offended and worried when something like this happens. I'm probably NOT normal (but then who thought I was? But my first thought was "HA! Looks like someone was busy last night! I don't know why, but I find it perversely amusing how some people choose to waste their time. If so, what on Earth could we have done to these poor people to have engendered such rage? I have theories, of course. *coughWASLcough*). I am a 35-year-old nati...

http://www.spedteacherjournal.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 29, 2009. There was a man named Michael Finnegan,. He grew whiskers on his chin again,. He shaved 'em off, but they grew in again,. Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.". My new school is my old school. I have a new room, with new furniture and old furniture. I have a new aide and an old one. I have familiar students, and unfamiliar ones. People to say "Nice to meet you" to, and others to whom I can say, "It's nice to see you again.". I am also oddly calm about this year. I genera...

A Girl from the Evergreen State blazing a new trail in the Green Mountains. Feb 25th, 2013 at 5:55 PM. Late last fall, I was asked by the president of Vermont-NEA (my states teachers union, part of the National Education Association) to attend a Womens Leadership Summit - a training aimed at improving leadership skills of those of us in the rank and file. The fact that this training was being held in Florida in February sealed the deal.I mean, really.do I need an excuse? So, without really knowing where ...

Catty Tails

Friday, February 10, 2006. I looked out this morning and saw 3 of the cats eating breakfast, just like a family would. Recruiter had two others- the little grey one and the solid black one. Then this evening Recuiter came up to the door with soaking wet head and neck. I wonder where he'd been. Posted by Sue @ 5:36 PM. Sunday, February 05, 2006. I do not believe that it is possible to teach a cat to obey; that is contrary. Remove them each time. Do they know I'm unhappy with them, and don't care? When it ...
