Splash, Mash and Pound. Sunday, July 19, 2015. SPRAY PAINTING THE FIREPLACE SURROUND! Thought I'd tackle redoing the fireplace surround. It was brass and now it's black. I used regular spray paint on the other fireplace, but started feeling that perhaps I was supposed to use heat spray paint. Heat spray paint at Home Depot and Lowes only comes in silver and black and the silver is very shiny, so I went with black. AndI hate the black. And here's the finished product. Antique Pewter! Splash, Mash and Pound. Sunday, July 19, 2015. Out with the DREMEL.in with the Oscillating saw! We are installing new casing that is 1" wider than what was there before. We need to cut back the chair rail that butt up to the old casing because we need to install the new casing. And of course, we don't want to take off the chair rail to do this. A dremel on steroids! Rick began cutting and the blade didn't really cut the wood, it burned the wood. 1) it smelled like woodshop. 2) it wasn't cutting very well.
