Squirrel's View

Saturday, February 7, 2015. Winter walk along the Shenandoah River. His afternoon I decided to take a walk along the Shenandoah River since it was so nice out. Right away I found a branch with several gouty oak galls caused by Callirhytis guercus punctata. At least I think that was what it was. Nearby was Exidia nigricans. Black Jelly Fungus which is similar to Whitche's butter only black. I expected to find Ebony Spleenwort, Aspleinium platyneuron. I also found an unknown cocoon that was very small.

Squirrel's View: Lewis and Clark

http://squirrelsview.blogspot.com/2014/04/lewis-and-clark.html

Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Missouri is the official name given by the U. S. Geological Survey. It dates back to French explorer Jacques Marquette's journal and 1876 map of the Mississippi River and its tributaries. His Algonquian-speaking guides called the people living at the mouth of the Missouri River "8emessourit" meaning "people with canoes (made of logs)." Over time, the name was simplified to "Missouri" and became the river's name. I drove back down the mountain a little and found a campsite in the...

The house in the woods. The old family barn in Avon. It’s a beautiful, magical connection reminding me that, no matter how much our mobile lifestyles and technologies may seek to separate us from a particular place and its landscape, that attachment is too deeply-rooted, too meaningful to ever really go away.

Bullet Pond Journal: July 2013

http://bulletpondjournal.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Adventures of a Backyard Naturalist. Thursday, July 4, 2013. I spotted this salamander while I was swimming yesterday, on a submerged log in two feet of water. It appears to be an adult red spotted newt the adult aquatic stage of the common forest dwelling red eft. The red eft is the juvenile stage of this amphibian which returns to the water as an adult salamander, and can live over ten years. (or until a bass spies it sitting on a log). Wild Informatics: Static member in Python

http://wildinformatics.blogspot.com/2013/06/static-member-in-python.html

Jun 19, 2013. Static member in Python. Python has different syntax from most common OOP languages like C or Java. When declaring variables, the name is not followed by a type identifier or scope modifier. For creating a static member of a class, simply write it inside the class outside of the scope of member functions. To declare a variable belonging to instance, simply add self. prefix. Wild Informatics: Calling C functions from Python

http://wildinformatics.blogspot.com/2012/12/calling-c-functions-from-python.html

Dec 2, 2012. Calling C functions from Python. Python is capable of calling functions from a C library. Say, we have the following C code which needs to be used in a python script. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with python 2.7. Int add(int a, int b) { return (a b) ; }. First the C code has to be compiled as a shared library. Gcc -fpic -c c code.c $ gcc -shared -o c code.so c code.o. Then the shared library has to be copied to /lib/x86 64-linux-gnu/. Sudo cp c code.so /lib/x86 64-linux-gnu/. One Problem A Day.

To fix this problem, the old (flawed) merge list has to be removed first, then a new one has to be created. In Ubuntu 12.04, the following worked for me. Sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf sudo apt-get update. Location: Windsor, ON, Canada. Nov 7, 2012. Opening a Terminal Anywhere in Ubuntu. Sudo apt-get install nautilus-open-terminal. From my little one. December 12, 2012. A Nutful of Thoughts

Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Written January 30th, 2015. The music starts, I must begin. His offered hand I take. Three steps forward, and I fill. His side, his arm, his breast. My chin uplifted, my eyes upturned. His hand they take my own. I breathe as deeply we descend. And off as one we go. A mere touch is all I need. His hand will let me know. I wait for him to tell me when. His silence is my lair. The music cues, he commands. The lightest then I spring. I step across, my feet descend. I felt like my li...
