Tales from the road. Friday, October 13, 2006. Driving to work today we were listening to Chris Tomlin. As he sang the words, the earth is filled with His glory I looked out of the car and saw a small child, about 6 years old digging through the huge trash heap that is on the side of the road, he was looking for breakfast. The earth is filled with Your glory? The startling image still haunts my mind. Where is this glory? The glory of God? Some will find glory in only the miraculous. But where is it?

Thoughts under the sun. Friday, July 29, 2005. One of the joys of being onboard a culturally diverse ship is that you get accustomed to hearing a lot of languages. Today, I had "Happy Birthday" sung to me in English, Welsh, German, Swiss-German, and Xhosa. Beth was on duty today, which means she can't leave the ship. As I leave for work, I greet the man who works for our complex and picks up all the newspapers. Then I walk by the neighborhood homeless man who actually makes me smile because instead of having the typical jar for money or "Will work for Food" sign, he simply has a sign that says, "Single?
